I think that looks pretty good. In past years, it would work. This is a wild card year. Good luck.

Of course, this is not what I had in mind for my DD. I appealed and won. I think that many qualified DCs are put in this position. The Principal told me he "hated" all these smart kids and that they did nothing for the school, and there were too many of them anyway. He told me what he liked was children with problems because the State funds those. Maybe he was just yanking my chain, but we left and went to the center school after that. GL

Same DC now a junior at TJ. with WISC score 125.

awesome. My son is also a junior a TJ. (that's besides the point ofc)

Yes, I am appealing. Yes, u are right. She and another girl are the quiet ones who just do their job and require no guidance or teaching or looking after. In fact these two girls are placed next to kids who need help (which I am all for!) BUT not at the expense of my kid not getting her fair share of challenge!

I am going to give this my best shot. Coz if this doesnt come through, we have to relocate and that puts us at a very difficult position financially.

We did.
GBRS 6
Nnat 117
CogAt
Verbal 138, Quant 127, Nonverbal 125, Composite 134
Wisc IV
Verbal 136, Perceptual 123, Working Mem 104, Processing 118
Woodcock Johnson 96th percentile for Reading and Math

Did you turn in anything else besides the scores, such as strong recommendation letters or work samples? I'm on a similar boat here and would love to hear more from you. Can you post the composite for WISC? Also, what grade level did your DC score on WJ-III Math and Reading? Thanks.

I did not have letters, except for one which i wrote explaining DC's strengths, etc. I did include a better work sample in the appeal--the one the teacher sent in was absolutely appalling.
WJ scores based on Grade 2.8:
Broad Reading GE 5.7
Broad Math GE 4.4
Math Calc GE 3.5 (lower because of calculation errors, child is ADHD)
WISC composite 128
Scaled scores in Verbal were 15-17, in Perceptual 11-15, Working Mem 9-18, Processing 11-15

I think it was the Very Superior Verbal scores in both Cogat and Wisc that got him in. It has been a good fit, helped by a great teacher this year. I honestly believe that it is the the teacher that matters--you could have a mediocre teacher in AAP that would be less preferable to a great teacher in GenEd. DC had mediocre 1st and 2nd grade teachers at Base School, so even though we now have the ADHD diagnosis, this year has been the best yet. We will see what next year brings. My kid is smart, but not really motivated (somewhat typical ADHD).

Why would you have to relocate?

I agree that your DC's high verbal scores played a crucial role. Thanks for posting. It gives me an idea of where my DC needs to stand for a chance. We are going to see Dr. Dehlgren for the WISC/WJ in a few days, but quite nervous...

Got the WISC results...Verbal and Perceptual are in the very superior range. Working Memory in high average. Processing in low range. Overall score high average. Psychologist said that we should do further testing as DC is extremely bright and the processing looks off given the V and P scores. Not too surprising, as DC was assessed with a processing issue. Psychologist also noted that FCPS does not do a great job with 2E. Also, noted that we should not appeal with these scores, as FCPS will not accept a child with low processing and should wait until fall and have GMU do a CogAT. Dr. advised to do everything privately. Also mentioned DC may have ADD (inattentive) based upon the observation during the WISC. Of course, we will do a complete evaluation to confirm what is going on.

Side note: AART had asked me to make a copy of the WISC (i mentioned that we were having a WISC done) to put in DCs school file. Psychologist advised that I should not make a copy of any outside testing.

If its' not helpful for your child, I would not provide the school anything either. Otherwise it will just follow your child when it doesn't need to.

I'm surprised that the processing speed really mattered to the FCPS AAP. I always thought it was all about the verbal and perceptual. I'm just somewhat surprised the doctor told not to appeal regardlesss of the very superior verbal. Was it Dr. Dehlgren?

Not the original poster. But a note that my child scored in the Very Superior range for the FSIQ and did not get in this round.

Absolutely agree on not appealing with those scores.

As do I, the OP of the above. DC has a recently assessed LD and we are doing an all out evaluation. Exceptionally bright kid with low processing. Dr. suggested taking cogat in fall, better GBRS (11 this year) and then reapplying after 3rd.

I'm glad you are taking time to recognize what is best for your child right now. Good luck!

I know three kids who got in on appeal with low processing scores. That sounds like bad advice.
