I agree, a wisc of over 140 or 145 would be necessary. |
PP, that is total BS. WISC of 125 or above will probably be sufficient. |
Wow.. that seems pretty high, but with GBRS 6 that might be the only bet. I guess I have to cross my finger for a top WISC score.... Anyone made it in last year with an extremely low GBRS? |
The average GBRS of a center-eligible student has historically been 12. |
Disagree. A wisc of 125 would not overturn a GBRS of 6. A GBRS means that the student got at least one 1 on the GBRS commentary sheet. Remember the GBRS, this student could have gotten 1,1,1,3 or some other combination. The default for almost any student in gen ed would be a 1,1,1,1 or 4. So I think a high wisc would be necessary. just my opinion. |
Really? Definitely appeal!! |
How about WISC 140 and GBRS 8? How does that look? |
Thanks for the information. |
The reason a 125 might overturn a GBRS of 6 is it shows the committee that the GBRS is not accurate because the NNAT, FxAT, and WISC all contradict the GBRS. Teachers are humans and there are a lot of kids in each classroom so a teacher could misjudge a child if they haven't had enough one on one time with the child, especially a quiet child who doesn't participate much in class. |
125 will not overturn a 6. historically, 125 is below (just below) AAP in appeals. 128 is 50-50.
130+ would be needed. You can try. It is also possible that PP's kid, with the GBRS of 6 and 125 WISC is not gifted. You can complain about the high GBRS kids with lower test scores, but they do not test to hold back the class. |
We did. GBRS 6 Nnat 117 CogAt Verbal 138, Quant 127, Nonverbal 125, Composite 134 Wisc IV Verbal 136, Perceptual 123, Working Mem 104, Processing 118 Woodcock Johnson 96th percentile for Reading and Math |
I kinow one mom who tried three times to get her DD into AAP. And finally the kid got in. So keep trying. You will wear them down eventually! |
^ should be I "know." |

I'm on a similar boat here and would love to hear more from you. Can you post the composite for WISC? Also, what grade level did your DC score on WJ-III Math and Reading? Thanks. |
