Anyone made it in last year with an extremely low GBRS?
We did. GBRS 6 Nnat 117 CogAt Verbal 138, Quant 127, Nonverbal 125, Composite 134 Wisc IV Verbal 136, Perceptual 123, Working Mem 104, Processing 118 Woodcock Johnson 96th percentile for Reading and Math
Did you turn in anything else besides the scores, such as strong recommendation letters or work samples? I'm on a similar boat here and would love to hear more from you. Can you post the composite for WISC? Also, what grade level did your DC score on WJ-III Math and Reading? Thanks.
I did not have letters, except for one which i wrote explaining DC's strengths, etc. I did include a better work sample in the appeal--the one the teacher sent in was absolutely appalling. WJ scores based on Grade 2.8: Broad Reading GE 5.7 Broad Math GE 4.4 Math Calc GE 3.5 (lower because of calculation errors, child is ADHD) WISC composite 128 Scaled scores in Verbal were 15-17, in Perceptual 11-15, Working Mem 9-18, Processing 11-15 I think it was the Very Superior Verbal scores in both Cogat and Wisc that got him in. It has been a good fit, helped by a great teacher this year. I honestly believe that it is the the teacher that matters--you could have a mediocre teacher in AAP that would be less preferable to a great teacher in GenEd. DC had mediocre 1st and 2nd grade teachers at Base School, so even though we now have the ADHD diagnosis, this year has been the best yet. We will see what next year brings. My kid is smart, but not really motivated (somewhat typical ADHD).
