What do we think will happen on Monday?

Did you live in Vermont? I graduated from a Fairfax high school in 96 and we missed over two weeks of school due to one snow storm my senior year.

They are probably waiting to follow the lead of other districts.

They all have to open. The conditions aren't going to meaningfully change for weeks. Everybody will have to make do.

APS strong signaling they are opening.

No one has come back to meaningfully address what will be different mid week or when they think schools can re open.

It’ll be above freezing Tuesday, which will make shoveling a lot easier. I think we should be fine Wednesday.

LCPS has already been communicating with teachers about possibly doing virtual learning this coming week.

The point is that communities need more time. Everyone in my neighborhood is shoveling but our cars keep getting re-buried by plows and the work of breaking through this ice is frankly exhausting and a multi-day endeavor. I appreciate Reid’s email about communities coming together but the work she’s asking people to do is not feasible in 2 days. The ice isn’t going anywhere but we can at least wait until more progress is made on clearing roads and sidewalks.

It’s not going to be warm enough to make shoveling that much easier. What is currently packed on your or your neighbors sidewalk or driveway that has not been touched or the banks in the roads from snowplows are not going away and will still be extremely difficult to remove.

So the answer is you are all out working and have been since Monday and just need a couple more days past the 2 you have left and you’ll clear all this up.

I appreciate the response. Not buying it but good to hear the logic.

Waiting for people to shovel isn't a viable countywide strategy. It's not going to put a dent in this. They can't keep kids home until this goes away.

You are still seeing plows? Are you just off a main road? We were plowed once on Sunday and at this point I’m fine with that. There are just piles of ice blocks now along the side of the road from people digging out and if a plow came by at this point…😡

Each day the roads get more clear. So yes, the longer we wait, the safer it will be, lol. I think it’s reasonable to expect sidewalks around schools to be shoveled, as well as not every road being one lane as buses complete their routes
