Thoughts on U Richmond

Not seeing it as hate. Just people sharing thoughts.

Did we really need almost a month of this thread for people to throw shade at this school? There’s definitely an unreasonable amount of animus towards UR. It’s more than opinions about cost or “prestige” or “outcomes.” Plenty of other private universities and SLACs are in the same boat. Something about UR’s vibe just rubs people the wrong way. I don’t necessarily disagree. It wasn’t right for either of my DCs. But let’s not pretend this is people sharing their objective analysis.

A bunch of self-identified southern “liberals” (in fact still very conservative, and hypocritical), hating on a semi-liberal school in their own state.

I get that this school kind of sucks and no one in Virginia goes there but do we really need a 20 page thread talking about it. No one cares about this school.

No one cares.

Northern rich kids cosplaying as old south country clubbers. Avoid.

Really mediocre academics. Not a top SLAC.

Only person I know who goes there is a stay at home mom. Married well. Husband has a nice job; didn’t go to Richmond.

DCUM really hates this school
For some reason. Touches a nerve.

My guess - Liberal white women don’t like Richmond because it’s not woke.

Campus has fake feel to it. Didn’t like it at all.

This take is just as unreasonable. Wokeness as a pejorative is so lazy. Is Richmond like Oberlin, no. But from what I saw on multiple tours there were plenty of progressive groups and voices on campus.

Yeah. This take seems wrong. My guess - people just don’t really like the school. We visited. It was fine. Nothing special. Way too expensive for what it is.

Still don’t understand why the hate after 20 pages.

It’s a private in their own state but they can’t afford to go. School gets lots of NE kids to attend so they are jealous?

I agree - the administration should skip maintenance to give it more of rundown feel and possibly make space of homeless camps and needle exchanges in the green space.

It is the same for most private schools. Most of the posters here don't think that private schools are worth it if the schools aren't ranked in the top 20 of liberal arts colleges.

What posters don't get is that some people make a lot more money than their neighbor or have saved a lot more their kids' education than their neighbor has saved. Or maybe they inherited some money or settled a huge pi case. So, these private schools aren't the luxury for them that they are for others.
