Thoughts on U Richmond

I don’t know why people are comparing it to W&M and UVA, it’s a SLAC not a public.

We toured it earlier this summer and DC loved it. We had a great tour guide who spoke about a wide variety of activities. Beautiful campus. Sciences and arts look great. DC isn’t interested in the Greek scene so it’s nice that it’s there if you want it but not dominant.

It’s high on DC’s list, although that would depend on getting merit aid, which DC understands. DC liked it better than W&M; URichmond and Mary Wash are top choices right now, but we haven’t started on non-VA schools yet.

This entire thread is like a choreographed WWE wrestling match complete with heels and faces. I don’t think the NoVa people can have a rational conversation about this school.

The last U of R thread went off the rails quickly too. For whatever reason there’s a lot of irrational hate for the school from people with no actual experience.

VT also moved past UVA and WM and is giving Richmond a run for its money as the top VA college.

You went on a tour but you didn’t go into the Robbins Center or new Student Rec facility adjacent to it? By the football field? No mention of they had sports. Stop lying.

Again, it’s this kind of trolling that gets the NoVa moms all agitated. Should have worked JMU into this comment to really get the chum in the water.

Not surprised. UR is the better school.

Nice try.

New poster
We went on a tour around the same time, and it was shortened due to the extremely hot weather. I’m not sure if it is fair to judge the school based on the limited tour. Unlike pp, my teen still really enjoyed the tour and liked the school.

It’s good for business and the kids I know that go there have really enjoyed their experience. As a private school with a smaller student body it’s going to offer more scaffolding, smaller classes and support than larger public schools. The alumni job network is also strong. That said it is small, preppy and skews rich which doesn’t appeal to everyone.

Never met anyone of substance who went here, and I’ve worked at the higher levels of DC law for a long time. It’s a school for lightweights.

Don’t go to UR if you want to go to med school. Bio and chem are not strong. Business school is okay. Otherwise hard pass.

This. It’s not a state school. It seems like a great school but they aren’t known for giving a lot of merit so we can’t afford it. If you are looking at schools like Lafayette, Bucknell, Lehigh, Wake Forest, you might want to add it to your list.

I’m a little surprised they don’t give better merit. They have a fairly substantial endowment.

Richmond is balanced and strong across disciplines common to premed planning, such as biology, chemistry and physics. Richmond makes an excellent choice for medical school aspirants partly for this reason.

This is the winner for the day.
