Your last point is why they don't want recordings, because travel kids were playing on a rec team in a tournament. It wouldn't be the first and won't be the last time these sort of shenanigans will happen, especially with weaker programs. It's not a far cry from kids that play down in age groups that they have no business being in when player cards aren't involved. Happened every winter in indoor games at the Dulles Sports Plex.

DP. I have no dog in this fight, but why would a travel player come play in a rec tournament on the same weekend they have a travel tournament? All the local travel clubs were playing in tournaments that weekend. I can’t see how a travel player would have time for both. Is it possible they had a rec player who is older, or even someone not technically on the team but a good athlete that they wanted help from in the rec tournament? I feel ridiculous even typing that but we all know some parents are ridiculous.

Sure buddy. Sounds like you were obviously being an annoyance. Accused them of something. I repeat they dont let travel player on rec during season.

Maybe an outlier rec player is better than some kids on a 5th team but definitely not 3rd or 4th. And by the way most travel teams are not five levels deep. Maybe Arlington and Loudoun because they are huge and the competition is super tough.

This supports the conclusion that Valor will put anyone on their teams....$$$ comes first. Anyone who plays rec for SYA or CYA, you are guaranteed a spot on a travel team for this club.

Do not waste your time with Valor and definitely not with CYA. They are the bottom of the barrel clubs in the area. Some have said that CYA uses travel players in their Rec All-stars team and even threatened to call the cops for other parents filming games. Rotten coaches for Valor and CYA. SYA should break off and join Loudoun, Herndon or GFR.

Wait what??? Who uses travel players in rec tournaments and called the cops for filming a game? Is this throughout the league?

This is not true, dont listen to troll.

I’ve heard from multiple sources it is true including higher ups at CYA. Read the full thread here:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/60/1168773.page

But here’s clips of what was conveyed at a rec tournament.

“Not Herndon Cup, but I've had rec parents from CYA's rec team (13G Weber) threaten to call the cops on me multiple occasions for filming my own daughter's match. They'd send parents, coach, and CYA staff to demand that I stop filming… Even when the CYA Rec Director got on the phone with the CYA 13G Weber team to tell them filming was permitted and to look around at all the other people with cell phones, they stayed aggressively firm that they were in the right with their demands that I cease recording. "We do not consent" was repeated multiple times.

Others have said that the team may have had travel players who shouldn't be on the team.”

This is a major reason people leave for Travel over Rec even if it leads to the 4th or 5th team. Dirty coaches like this guy are ruining the Rec soccer experience.

Anything is possible. I'm not PP but I also heard about this from multiple people that weekend. They were acting insanely suspicious and weird for no reason. No one cared or thought anything was going on until the parents made it a thing. It could be an older rec kid playing down. For sure or a travel friend of someone. Who knows. But cheating to get an advantage is not unheard of

Isn't that fraud or a breach of contract? You bought a yearlong slot on the pink team. They move you down to the purple team-not what you paid for.

Rec teams don't have any of those services.

Everybody in this division and league know about this coach. He's been pulling this stuff for years, and he's not even a good coach or ever played sports. The CYA spring season is coming and he'll still be at it. Keep an eye out, you'll eventually hear something about him and his team doing some shady crap before the season is done.

I'd much rather put my DC on a 5th travel team than have to deal with jerks in rec like this. You get what you pay for. It's too bad because rec soccer should have always been fun but bad people ruined a good thing.

Rec teams don't have any of those services.

We moved here so never did local house league soccer but a coworker's ds played SYA house league last season and complained that it was over $200 and then they also had to buy multiple uniform shirts on top of that (I was shocked it cost so much! We paid $55 when our kids were younger and they got free shirts). He also said they had to go buy numbers and make the shirts themselves which didn't make any sense to me. But his biggest complaint was their team only had 1 hour practice on a soccer field with three other high school level teams and the lights were broken so they were practicing in the dark all season. Did not seem worth over $200. I would rather pay for my kids to play on the tenth club team rather then deal with that. Rec soccer with volunteer coaches should be cheap at least if that is all you getting.

Everybody is filming at games. It's a very normal thing. Not sure why this rec coach was threatening to call the cops on another team about filming a game.

At rec games, I have seen parents filming with their phones but never a tripod or professional set up. Seems a little OTT.

What was over the top? Filming your kids soccer game? Or threatening to call the cops because you are filming your kids soccer game?

Having the whole set up for filming a rec game seems excessive but its a free country. I can't believe someone even complained about that.

They had to buy multiple shirts and then buy numbers and iron on the numbers themselves? That can't be right.
