Week 10 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings

1. Robinson (19-0)

Results: Def. Mount Vernon 19-2, Def. Alexandria City 17-3

Analysis: Robinson cruised into the semifinals and a rematch with Lake Braddock. It will be interesting to see if LB figured out a way to even things up a bit. As it stands now, Robo looks unstoppable.

Up this week: vs. Lake Braddock (5/23)

2. Battlefield (14-1)

Results: Def. Colonial Forge 16-0

Analysis: Shutout victory for Battlefield against Colonial Forge shows just how weak the Commonwealth district is this year. The official bracket in this Region is nowhere to be found but we think Battlefield faces John Champe for the third time this season. Both prior games were blowout wins for Battlefield and we expect the same this week, leading to a fourth game against Patriot. Really need some more matchup variety on this side of the State.

Up this week: vs. John Champe (5/24)

3. Patriot (13-3)

Results: Def. Woodbridge 1-0

Analysis: We didn’t hear any reports from this game but it appears to be a forfeit score. Patriot gets their third match with Freedom on Tuesday, and they should win and get a fourth game with Battlefield in the Regional championship game, unless they let their guard down against the scrappy Freedom team.

Up this week: vs. Freedom South Riding (5/24)

4. Yorktown (13-3)

Results: Def. Langley 14-6

Analysis: Yorktown dominated Langley in the rematch. They dictated the pace of play on offense and played high-pressure defense that prevented Langley from slowing things down. Patriots take the Liberty district crown and earn an opening game match against Oakton, whom they beat handily earlier this season. Yorktown should coast into the Regional finals.

Up this week: vs. Oakton (5/23)

5. Madison (13-3)

Results: Def. Centreville 14-5

Analysis: Madison took down Centreville with ease to win the Concorde district championship. They still appear to be firing on all cylinders and face a Washington-Liberty team that should offer little resistance. Up next could be an interesting matchup with Langley, and potentially a huge championship matchup against Yorktown.

Up this week: vs. Washington-Liberty (5/23)

6. Lake Braddock (15-3)

Results: Def. Lewis 23-0, Def. West Springfield 9-6

Analysis: Lake Braddock destroyed Lewis but played a surprisingly close game against West Springfield. Unclear if injuries are a factor or if this team peaked too early in the season, as they seem to be slipping a bit in the playoffs. They get their chance to prove themselves tonight against Robinson, but all signs point to another Rams blowout and the end of the Bruins’ season.

Up this week: vs. Robinson (5/23)

7. West Potomac: (14-5)

Results: Def. Annandale 21-2, Def. South County 13-2

Analysis: West Potomac is heating up and trounced South County after playing two close games against them earlier this season. They get Woodson, who they only beat by two goals a few weeks ago. The Wolverines have the hot hand and we predict an easy win and a repeat of the District championship game against Robinson for the Regional championship, with the Rams taking Region C with ease.

Up this week: vs. Woodson (5/23)

8. Langley (9-4)

Results: Lost to #4 Yorktown 14-6

Analysis: Langley looked overwhelmed in the rematch against Yorktown. Ugly, messy game with the refs playing too big of a role with multiple non-releasable penalties against both teams, but in the end Langley just couldn’t keep pace. They face a Westfield team that they beat in overtime during the regular season. Langley needs a rebound and if they win they get a very tough likely matchup with Madison.

Up this week: vs. Westfield (5/23)

9. Freedom South Riding (10-5)

Results: Def. Colgan 17-1

Analysis: Maybe Freedom is better than Langley – it is hard to say with their limited schedule. Freedom makes easy work of the extremely weak Commonwealth district foe Colgan and faces Patriot for a third time. Expect a third loss and an end to their respectable season.

Up this week: vs. Patriot (5/24)

10. Woodson (11-7)

Results: Beat Justice 18-3, Beat Hayfield 18-6

Analysis: We had to show the Cavs a little love for a commendable season. Woodson had some decent wins this season against Centreville, Chantilly, McLean, South County, West Springfield, and Alexandria City and is maybe a hair better than the honorable mention teams. They lost a close one to West Potomac earlier this season but we think they are catching the Wolverines at the wrong time and West Potomac takes the rematch by a wider margin.

Up this week: vs. West Potomac (5/23)

Others Receiving Votes: Centreville (10-6), Westfield (8-7), Oakton (8-8), McLean (8-8), Alexandria City (11-6)

Reports say COVID case numbers have been increasing at James W. Robinson Secondary School. This might be their biggest threat.

Almost every school is seeing an uptick in numbers.

Yeah, don't expect teams to be doing a lot of contact tracing or self-reporting during the playoffs.

Rumor is VHSL is considering rapid testing requirement before state tournament games now that tests are more prevalent.

Anonymous
I can't see how they could do that.
Anonymous
won't ever happen, not ever. VHSL is not going to draw a new line in the sand. Nice try.

Didn’t realize player safety is unheard of

Good point, they should start with mouth guards and work their way up to differentiating themselves 100% with what state schools are doing in the classroom in regards to pandemic testing.

You can't say "rumor is" when there is no rumor. Trolling, nothing more.

So it wasn't important enough to do during districts or regionals. But it is in states, with fewer schools and students participating, playing outside and with only a couple weeks left before the end of school. I smell a troll....

Robinson doesn’t need to worry about it anymore.

Crazy! Robo doesn’t make the state tourney. Wow!
