Region C Games Tonight

Alexandria City @ Robinson - Robinson already beat AC 14-1 earlier this season

West Springfield @ Lake Braddock - LB beat WS 15-4 earlier this season

Hayfield @ Woodson - Should be an easy win for the Cavs. Hayfield is not a strong #1 seed and lost to West Springfield and West Potomac and South County this season by a lot.

South County @ West Potomac - Should be the only competitive game. South County and West Potomac have played twice and split - both one goal games

FOGO who wins every faceoff, dumps ball to attack and runs off field - probably not going to get stick check requested. Win faceoff and go down and score (while getting hammered by poles and ball doesn't come out) in a playoff game - you're probably going to get request. And if you're using illegal stick it's a penalty. Not sure how folks argue fogo guys should be able to use whatever illegal stick they want - there's a rule for a reason and kudos to Yorktown coach for calling for it.

Agree with idea that losing the request should have some penalty (time out loss is a good one) to prevent abuse. Think women's game might have limit of 3 per game.

Spoken like someone who does not know the FOGO position much at all. Most fogo heads, right after a FO, are going to be illegal in one way or another. You see the head bends out of shape on a faceoff..... The refs, trust me, know this and when they do a random check, never choose one of the FO kids. If they do, they are trying to send a message to the coach that they don't like him.

The solution here:
FOGOs identified before the game and they all get a pre game stick check. Need to be within before any action.
Rest of the field players are subject to random normal checks- no pregame check.
If a normal stick check is called (Fogo included who did not just FO), same rules apply, penalty on one end or loss of TO on the other.
If a stick check is called for on a kid who just faced off- there WILL be a 1-2 min non releasable on one of the teams, either the stick is legal and the requesting team is now down or the stick is illegal and the "stick" team is down.
This would make a coach think very hard about calling for a check on a FOGO who just faced, but if they are certain that they will win, its worth it.

actually most fogo sticks are illegal or close to it b/c fogo manipulates it to be so - or pushes it right up against the line... bent/borderline heads get manually adjusted all the time during game (just watch fogos working on their heads as they run off...) that's not the issue. yes refs avoid calling on them for their regular stick checks because everybody knows this. And most coaches don't single out fogo guys unless there's a reason. But guess what: winning faceoff and then running through 12 stick checks and scoring in close playoff game is going to give a coach a reason.... So push the envelope all you want - but if you get caught, don't start crying...

Unless you were a fogo and-or your kid is a fogo where you are very familiar with his stick and stringing, which I seriously doubt based on your attitude and comments, please dont make assumptions on things you know next to nothing about. If you/kid were a fogo and had to do this intentionally, you must not have been that good.

That loss to West Po by Lake Braddock in districts must have been a killer for that team. Their season ends if they can't beat Robo now in the region semis. So one of those teams does not make states, wow.

Yep. I have a guess which one won't make states. That was definitely a huge loss. Don't love the bracket system where a team like Hayfield gets a #1 seed and an easier path to States than one of the top 5-6 teams in Virginia, but I guess those are the breaks.

South County has already beaten West Po once and lost to Woodson by one. It is entirely possible that they make the championship game and head to States with a 5-11 record.

Yeah agree - would think Patriot #3 seed (LB) would at least be on the right hand side bracket with Patriot #2 (WestPo) versus placed on left hand side with their own Patriot #1 (Robo). Basically seems better to be the #4 seed (get matchup against weaker National division #1 (Hayfield) and avoid your own Patriot #1 until the finals - which is important since top 2 make state tourney) versus earning the #3 seed and having to go up against Robo in semis...

agreed on all. Too bad. What if LB comes up and shocks the world and Robinson doesn't make states! That woudl be a travesty.

LB should first focus on W. Springfield and maybe not look ahead anymore.

No doubt. I don’t think they will take any chances and expect them to beat West Springfield decisively. Whether they have an answer to Robo is another issue.

Looks like it wasn’t decisively. LB-9 WS-6 yuck

Wow, they seem to be slipping a bit, and West Potomac stepping up.

Well, a win is a win. Theoretically, each time teams play each other it should be closer because they know each other better. But I expected LB to try to make a statement after losing to WestPo, which is playing really well right now.

We could see a repeat of the district championship game, but I'm not sure that West Po can make it any closer against Robinson this time though.
