US has no good options in Ukraine

So the Russian soldiers are incompetent fools who don't know how to coordinate an attack effectively, and they're war criminals who senselessly murder families?

Why is Zelenskyy showing mercy to these guys and letting them call their moms in Russia?

Putin has upped the ante in the last 3-4 days. He wanted to do an orderly invasion, and troops were told only once they crossed the border where they were going. Also told they would be greeted as liberators. Now the gloves are off, it’s indiscriminate, relentless shelling and bombing of civilian areas. It’s Syria and you better believe the chemical weapons will be rolled out if the current strategy does not yield the results Putin expects. He is using this as leverage to force the US and Europe into a deal.

I think the problem is more that he wasn't playing both sides.

Exactly. He is genuine and was trying to move Ukraine away from Russian corrupt authoritarianism made possible through cronyism … the move towards more transparent democracy is a great threat to the evil psychopath who runs Russia with delusions of restoring lost imperial glories …

The extent of all the war crimes and lies he perpetuates is beyond belief …

Zelensky is a hero who fights for Ukraine’s survival and on behalf of Western democratic values … the ordinary Ukrainians fighting along side their military officers are heroes. The bravery is astonishing.

Feel bad for ordinary Russians being force fed Putin’s lies about Ukraine and NATO …

A great strategy for making Russia an international pariah state and making himself an international war criminal. At the rate he's going pretty soon his only option will be to turn Russia into a hermit kingdom like North Korea.

Because their moms in Russia need to hear what's actually going on instead of the lies told to them by the Kremlin.

I saw that too. I had a big, ugly cry and then made another donation. This war is an abomination.

Here’s an article about them:

It’s so important for journalists to report on this. If this were a third world country, such a picture would not make it to the front page. We changed the course of the war with social media and professional reporting.

Thank you for sharing. I had to stop reading a few times because of the tears. I don’t know how to process this. I keep switching from crying to cleaning to donating more. That poor family, those beautiful children. My heart is breaking for them and for the ones whose stories we’ll never know.

And because mothers have some moral and political power. The Soldiers Committee of Mothers has some power. Mothers are already beginning to question authorities. And authorities are not really going to be able to lock them up.

Check this video. In one part she asks the authority, And where is your son?” and he answers “my son is studying at university” and she repeats (outraged) “at university!”

My Russian is not good enough to translate the whole video, but clearly the mothers are asking him uncomfortable questions and challenging his answers.

There is also a webpage 200rf.com run by UKR govt. where Russian moms can check for their sons. They are offered a chance/directions to pick them up.

Journalists choose stories based on their impact. Ukraine is one of the biggest stories in decades because the impact of the war is global. Not one of us will remain unscathed by this war. Go buy tank of gas if you don't believe me.

The deaths of children in very poor countries aren't as newsworthy as the stories out of Ukraine because those conflicts won't affect many people. That's the sad truth.

The death of a child is an unfathomable tragedy no matter where it occurs.

In the old East Germany that happened all the time.

There is video footage today of the evacuation corridor being bombed to smithereens. This is the second day in a row that they promise ceasefire and don’t comply, in a city that has been cut off from electricity, water, sanitation and freezing winter temps.

Sadly, I think it’s a combo of evil and just poor communication/leadership. Maybe someone just decided not to tell those directing the troops about the cease fire combined with at least someone tried but couldn’t - bad equipment, didn’t know who to tell or where to find them.

Maybe the best strategy is a disinformation campaign to invading troops. Drop leaflets and post on social media some lucrative offer in exchange for surrender

Could be. The world really hasn't seen such an overhyped, incompetent military force in quite some time. Baghdad Bob would be a serious upgrade and look like Alexander the Great to this inept crew.

No. Russia has done this in prior conflicts. They want to terrorize into submission.

Granted their army is led by a mechanical engineer with zero military experience, but what’s happening now is the only game plan they have left.

When I hear the Russian threats, they sound desperate. It doesn’t sound like they come from strength.

Apparently, a Russian parliament member Narusova stated 96 Russians out of 100 died in a platoon. Her husband was a mentor of Putin.

She spoke out against the war. Putin poisoned her husband long ago so we will see if he kills her, too. I am not sure if the following is true but it seems like she had an autopsy done of her husband and said she keeps the results safely out of Russia. Her adult daughter has already fled.

The middle class in Russia who speak English don’t support Putin. They’re having panic attacks now that the western companies left and they’re out of jobs, the can’t get their savings out of the banks, they can’t get out as nobody is issuing them visas. Their life, civilized as they know it, is over. What are they supposed to do?
