Beauvoir Scandal?

I don't know if this can be termed "good news", but perhaps "its not as bad as it appeared" news. The Examiner article to which I linked earlier said that the camera contained pictures of multiple boys and showed "touching". Here is a statement from the school pertaining to those claims:

"Regarding the DC Examiner article, we have spoken with the DC Police to inquire about information quoted in that article. The specific information that was reported about the photos found on the school camera was incorrect."

Here is WJLA's report on the Beauvoir incident. I'm only posting it because it actually shows messages from this forum.

Okay, I couldn't embed the video for some reason so you will have to click that link.

WJLA links to scanned copies of the letters the school sent parents:

The media seems to be reporting false information or at least holding back important information. We attended a community meeting at Beauvoir last night and much of what the media is stating is false. There are so many different scenarios and the situation is not as cut and dry as it seems. Based upon information presented last night there are so many scenarios to consider.

We are still sending our child to Beauvoir this Fall and feel confident that DC will be safe.

After reviewing the letters, I realize that I previously posted incorrect information based on my inaccurate recollection of the first letter's content. I posted that Beauvoir had decided not to renew the teacher's contract before the incident under discussion here. In fact, the letter states that the teacher had already resigned.

I apologize for the error.

Would you please be so kind as to tell us what is inaccurate or withheld?

I do not believe it is known if the child or children had anything to do with Beauvoir. Therefore, an apology is unneccessary. The letters we received cearly stated that the teacher is under investigation by the police and will be held accountable if guilty. These letters were not form letters, but informative, thoughtful letters which listed resources and invited us to contact Ms. Carreiro or other administrators with any questions or concerns.

I have to say I don't see why people want the school to issue press releases / seek media attention. It's a private school. The Beauvoir community has been kept well informed and a meeting was held this week for all concerned. Aside from timely communication and cooperation with the police / FBI and the school community, I don't see why anyone else has a need to know the details, especially if its release would compromise the police investigation. The school has been as forthcoming as it needs to be.

Note that the majority of posts from Beauvoir parents are unhappy about what happened and understandably outraged at the person responsible but comfortable with the actions taken thus far. Seems like the stakeholders are satisfied that the school is handling things appropriately.

Why? The same reason I would want to be informed if a convicted sexual predator moved into my neighborhood. Beauvoir isn't the only community this has touched. This man shops, baby sits, has neighbors, maybe goes to the park, ect, . Perhaps there are children outside the community involved. Wouldn't you want to be informed if that were the case?

I understand he has not been found guilty of anything. But, what if he did run away, to another community to stalk children?

But, this is a private matter for the Beauvoir community. It dsoesn't matter to anyone else.

I would imagine that if it is a digital camera that the image or images would be time stamped. As such, they might be able to identify the child (or children) involved and tie him to the images should he be responsible.

I would just like to know where the suspect is now...

So happy that you still will be sending your child to Beauvoir and that you are confident that DC will be safe.

For those of us who were not invited to the community party [did they have food?], could someone from the Family post a recap?

I have never visited this site until yesterday, when I came on to read about the Beauvoir situation. I am very alarmed at the tone of some of these posts. Allowing people to make wild accusations anonomously on this site is creating a high and unwaranted sense of hysteria. Unless someone has solid facts to add, they shouldn't be posting. If you want to see where this type of "group hysteria" can lead, google the Little Rascals Day Care sex scandal (late 1980s, No. Carolina). Innocent peple went to jail because of group hysteria. Please everyone, calm down before we try, convict and sentence the school and this teacher on this web site.

Thanks goodness you've come now to point out the error of our ways.
