Friday's "snow?"

Time to adapt. Winters may start getting more intense, so we can’t continue closing for every little thing. Ice will be different, but they also can’t close just because a few cul-de-sacs are icy. Make your own delay.

That's never been the real issue. Upcounty roads are almost always fine. They get less traffic so if you just drive 10-20mph slower you'll be fine. Upcounty has just been used as an excuse by the people who want to sleep in.

The county should always err on the side of caution. If the snow isn’t significant, oh well, no one was in danger. However, if the snowfall is dangerous like it is today, people are put at unnecessary risk. Anyone who complains about a “bad call “when there wasn’t enough snow to justify a delay is a jerk.

This is the right call. We need to be able to function normally in light dustings of snow.

Many teachers can’t make it in and all the subs are canceling. What a bad call.

Light fluffy snow here in Chevy Chase, tiny accumulation and my HS kid was dumbfounded that there was no delay or cancellation. I think MCPS has created a perception that school is incompatible with any precipitation, which is crazy. We live in an area where light snow is not unusual. It should not require us all to bunker down in our homes. Good call MCPS!

BS that safety is how mcps makes their decisions.

You may notice the roads are not empty because all other employers are still requiring that their paid employees go to work. MCPS employees need not be special snowflakes.

+1. My kids’ bus which often arrives 5-15 minutes late in clear and sunny weather was actually on time today. Go figure.

A lot of accidents being reported by Mr Piringer. Two hour delay for rain but no change for legit snow and ice………….. an “educated” decision?

How do you know this? Is this true for every school? Parents are always complaining. If there had been a delay you would still be complaining.

We live in Gaithersburg. We have one child who drives themselves to Poolesville and we drive another child to QO. My ex showed up to drive our child to QO and said it was very slippery out. Our neighborhood streets are unplowed and have about an inch of snow, but even though the sidewalks look clear, he said they’re slippery. Our child who drives to Poolesville is sick today, so is staying home, but ex made it clear that if they want to go in to school later, they should be driven by one of us because of the slippery conditions. My ex typically downplays driving in snow. These are bad conditions for inexperienced drivers.

The biggest issue is the one snow day built in. That factors into the equation. Now that MCPS has to close for every single observance, the calendar is screwed.

My kids bus was 25 minutes late today and having a lot of trouble sliding on the road. Hopefully, they make it to school safely. I know a lot of buses are having trouble pulling into school.

People complain about "bad calls" when the forecast clearly indicates that conditions will be reasonable to drive on. Today's conditions are in a middle zone. They ended up being reasonable to drive on, but if it had been much worse than predicted, then it may have been advisable to delay.

But, if the school is only going to build in a single snow day to the calendar, then we really need to open on days like today. It would be different if we added another 4 days to the year.
