DP. Great! |
More lies. Homicide /= muder. “ the highest murder rate in the US is Missouri, with a murder rate of 18 murders per 100,000. The third state with the most murders is South Carolina, at 17.4 homicides per 100,000, while Arkansas comes as the fourth state with the highest murder rate, with a rate of 16.1. The fifth and sixth states with the highest murder rates are Tennessee, at 14, and Alaska, at 12.3” Those damn liberal nutjobs in South Carolina!! You can’t explain how liberal policies lead to higher crime when California has a lower murder rate than Missouri and Arkansas. If it were liberal policy at the root then why would San Fran, Boston, NYC etc have lower rates than cities in red states? |
Yeah, you’re right. St. Louis has the highest murder rate. Except the residents there vote blue. https://www.dnronline.com/opinion/viewpoint/the-red-state-murder-problem-thats-just-a-democratic-driven-myth/article_86c29e36-fc52-5dcd-8287-6cabe7dbebbc.html Again, it’s majority blue cities and voters with these insane murder rates. And right now progressive criminal justice policies are making them more dangerous because there are no strict consequences. People get away with what they can. No amount of your infantalizing, consequence lowering, restorative justice stuff will change that. It’s pretty simple. |
Because they provide more of a safety net, social services and good jobs. Duh. In fact, California's homicide rate keeps rapidly dropping as they increase minimum wages and reform crim justice system. |
Criminal Justice System is negotiated at the State not city level. It's your Republican policies at work that bring poverty and crime to your cities vs. major cities in Blue states. |
Such a lazy, non-data driven response. Cities implement their own policies as well. |
I’m not some dyed in the wool Republican. I vote Democrat. I get that we need a social safety net. We need funding for public schools. I’m very centrist in many ways. But really, and I know it’s a sexy topic because even John Legend and like Kim Kardashian have advocated for it, but progressive criminal justice policies like no bail, or less impetus to prosecute quality of life crimes, or lower penalties for car jacking as dc tried to do, or letting speeders with unlimited speeding tickets keep their licenses are bad policies. Crime is going up and it’s this weak and soft on crime stuff to blame. Yes, does income inequality contribute? Obviously, however a prime driver, and as partly evidenced by the sky rocketing crime rates since George Floyd 2020 inspired criminal justice reforms are that you’re just seeing penalties lowered all over the country in response and a corresponding rise in crime. Organized shoplifting, car jackings up, it’s all because liberal policies basically advocate for more “compassionate alternatives to incarceration”. It’s not fking rocket science. If a liberal da declines to prosecute 67% of cases in 2022 like in dc these criminals are back out knowing they can commit crime with impunity. No consequences or weak consequences is morw crime. |
Switzerland does not permit fully automatic machine guns! They’re illegal! They give a rifle to military service members who keep it with them after service is up. Furthermore, Switzerland requires a mental health clearance for licensing together with annual training exams. While guns are common in Switzerland, they are heavily regulated and treated like the deadly weapons that they are. Gun ownership requires a lot of time, money and effort there, which is essentially the opposite of US position of no permit reqs, no training and picking a gun up at Walmart with an order of fries. |
Now, go to those states and name the big cities that brings those numbers up. You cannot compare states without looking at the cities. The cities generally set policy. (Illinois is the only STATE to set no cash bail state wide, for example) I'll give you a start there.... Missouri - St. Louis Tennessee - Memphis South Carolina - Florence Now, what do these cities have in common??????? |
And I’m the dinosaur liberal who thinks this probably isn’t a good path when societally we seem to have cut the brake lines when it comes to substance abuse. |
The same thing as big cities in blue states with lower murder rates? |
I think you’re confusing “homicide” with “gun violence.” Because they don’t count suicides in their homicide numbers. https://alaskabeacon.com/briefs/alaska-homicide-statistics-detailed-in-new-report-show-gender-and-ethnic-disparities/ |
