Capital Tryouts

If it's such a great team why are the girls not staying together ? We live in Bethesda and can't drive to VA so it isn't about making the team. I did hear that pride is a good program. It's the mix of girls that I heard has drama. Not knocking Pride.

New poster- don’t have skin in this game but this sounds just like our unnamed Baltimore club team who will be graduating this year.
Now that we are done I wish I would have gotten out sooner.
Your team will never get anywhere with pet players who continue to NOT improve and cannot play with the level of play in A tournaments.
This happens on many teams.
My DD was a random add to the team but she played on D and was a starter who played entire games. The O never could play but my DD got plenty of experience and was one of the first ones to commit (D1 top 25) much to the astonishment of the chosen ones. BTW those chosen ones are still waiting for their commits as their elevated commitment level has leveled off to the High academic D3 schools. They haven't been chosen yet and spots are running out now that July 1 has hit.
It all evens out in the end and the old saying that it only matters what the college coaches look for is so true! If your DD is good someone will notice!

Whoever draws the short straw to coach the 26 Capital team should get a pay raise. The politics if that team will be out of control and yes lots of over hyped players that can't compete with the Marypand clubs.

Neither Pride nor Stars 26 teams are consistently beating the top MD/LI clubs. Don't get me wrong these girls are good, but still not at the level of the top MD and Long Island teams. Remember how everyone was in awe of the 25 CLC B team? They are an impressive 0-5-1 this summer.

It is telling that a lot of 26 girls jumped ship off DMV teams for Baltimore teams. I always assumed they would come back to CLC but now I am thinking no…

Careful, the Capital groupies will be here soon to throw out all kinds of nonsense facts. They can't face facts that they aren't competitive

26 Pride team has too many ego’s, and frankly, aren’t that good. One of the most overrated teams in the DMV. They don’t even like each other??? Drama…

My guess is that rebuilding is definitely in the works now with the Capital connection.

Where will the girls come from for rebuilding purposes?

If you’re not willing to drive from Bethesda to Va, you’re not serious about your DD playing competitive lax.

What’s you’re angle? Why do you have so much venom toward Capital?

I am a new poster but in a similar situation. You have no idea what my family situation is or the difficulty driving over an hour each way to a practice would cause my family. Because you have the time and resources (health, money, job security and flexibility, whatever) doesn’t mean the rest of us do. My daughter loves lacrosse. I wish I could pick up everything to support her but I have bills to pay and other family members to take care of. I wish logistics didn’t matter for us but they do.

Totally hear you. Not an indictment of any sort. Just a fact. The better lax is in Va. If your DD is talented and you can make it happen, it’s worth it. If you can’t, you can’t. MoCo lax just isn’t as competitive as VA programs. We sacrificed a ton to do it for our DD. It worked out, and I’m glad we did it. But it didn’t come without many family sacrifices.

It's middle school lax- it's supposed to be fun. No girl is going to make $$$ from this so let them enjoy it.

Every kid should be doing it for fun. If it isn’t fun, regardless of the team she plays for, she should be doing something else.

But some kids are more talented than others. Some kids can play at a higher level. Some kids want to be challenged more.

If your kid is one of them, she will find more competition at the Va clubs (Pride in particular). If you’re serious about her development and can make the drive, it’s worth it. We did it and it was a good move / experience.

If she wants to play for fun, MC Elite is probably a better fit.

Va club players (perhaps BLC now, too) have a better shot at making Capital, which offers the best chance of getting seen by college coaches if the player is good enough to get recruited. Va Metro is a good second option based on their recent commits.

And you’re wrong - there is $$ in this sport. Coaches have on average 12 scholarships to divide / spread across their rosters (ivies excluded). If your kid is offered a portion of one it can mean sizable savings on college costs. Being recruited also offers an easier route to college. Given how competitive college admissions can be these days, this is big plus.

Not every kid makes Capital, gets recruited or is offered scholarship money. But the odds are higher, if they are good enough and want to pursue this track, if they are on a more competitive middle school team.

For those who want to pursue this track, it starts in middle school.
