Capital Tryouts

^^^ Good Summary. A private high school doesn’t hurt either.

If you’re not willing to drive from Bethesda to Va, you’re not serious about your DD playing competitive lax.

I am a new poster but in a similar situation. You have no idea what my family situation is or the difficulty driving over an hour each way to a practice would cause my family. Because you have the time and resources (health, money, job security and flexibility, whatever) doesn’t mean the rest of us do. My daughter loves lacrosse. I wish I could pick up everything to support her but I have bills to pay and other family members to take care of. I wish logistics didn’t matter for us but they do.

Totally hear you. Not an indictment of any sort. Just a fact. The better lax is in Va. If your DD is talented and you can make it happen, it’s worth it. If you can’t, you can’t. MoCo lax just isn’t as competitive as VA programs. We sacrificed a ton to do it for our DD. It worked out, and I’m glad we did it. But it didn’t come without many family sacrifices.

It's middle school lax- it's supposed to be fun. No girl is going to make $$$ from this so let them enjoy it.

Every kid should be doing it for fun. If it isn’t fun, regardless of the team she plays for, she should be doing something else.

But some kids are more talented than others. Some kids can play at a higher level. Some kids want to be challenged more.

If your kid is one of them, she will find more competition at the Va clubs (Pride in particular). If you’re serious about her development and can make the drive, it’s worth it. We did it and it was a good move / experience.

If she wants to play for fun, MC Elite is probably a better fit.

Va club players (perhaps BLC now, too) have a better shot at making Capital, which offers the best chance of getting seen by college coaches if the player is good enough to get recruited. Va Metro is a good second option based on their recent commits.

And you’re wrong - there is $$ in this sport. Coaches have on average 12 scholarships to divide / spread across their rosters (ivies excluded). If your kid is offered a portion of one it can mean sizable savings on college costs. Being recruited also offers an easier route to college. Given how competitive college admissions can be these days, this is big plus.

Not every kid makes Capital, gets recruited or is offered scholarship money. But the odds are higher, if they are good enough and want to pursue this track, if they are on a more competitive middle school team.

For those who want to pursue this track, it starts in middle school.

Spread around is the key concept. There are not many full rides. And, it isn't like football or basketball where a real star player could earn millions. The ladies playing Athletes Unlimited (currently the only womens' pro league) pretty much all have other jobs too.

Question:

Capital Orange or an A Team some other place?

Depends entirely on which A team. Several girls turned down Capital Orange last year for Pride's "A" team. Not sure it was a good decision.

Looks like for 2025 YJMA is a better option than Capital Orange. Stung them 9-5 at G8.

Oh wow! Statement game for YJMA!

And Capital Orange 24 beat YJMA 24 10-5. We are talking about a B team playing against supposedly an A team. Congrats to YJMA 25 on a nice win. Anything can happen on any given day on the lax field

For rosters…what is yellow jackets north mid Atlantic and then what is yellow jackets north high school select 2025? Both played at lax for the cure. Is mid Atlantic the hub and they have 2 2025 teams? Or is high school select the A team?

For whatever reason YJMA registers under YJ North. I assume it allows them to roster players from the actual YJ North teams if need be (YJ North is Rockland NY) so just an odd situation. It also may allow YJMA get their teams into tournaments they otherwise couldn’t.

HS Select is a mixed 2024 and 2025 team. The team labeled 2025 is the A team.

Here come the excuses…

Isn’t yjma’s roster posted on the g8 website? I saw it. Bottom line people who were there have posted that yjma wanted it more.

Funny considering Capital blue is playing in a bracket with Sky walkers and Yellow Jackets B team at the G8.
