This happens on many teams. 
My DD was a random add to the team but she played on D and was a starter who played entire games. The O never could play but my DD got plenty of experience and was one of the first ones to commit (D1 top 25) much to the astonishment of the chosen ones.  BTW those chosen ones are still waiting for their commits as their elevated commitment level has leveled  off to the High academic D3 schools. They haven't been chosen yet and spots are running out now that July 1 has hit.
It all evens out in the end and the old saying that it only matters what the college coaches look for is so true! If your DD is good someone will notice![/quote]
