I know there’s one poster who hates when people throw out the whole mental illness thing, but I’m really starting to think that this is really what’s happening. All this doomsday crap about how we’re gonna be half dead from Covid complications down the road…this isn’t normal thinking. It’s really not. |
And it should have been apparent to the so-called experts that we needed to focus our efforts tor protect the most vulnerable. Instead, they let the elderly die while lying to the rest of us that a 25 year-old athlete needed to live under the same restrictions as a 70-year old with COPD. And people bought it! |
NP here. I am in remission from OCD, and agree with PP. I do NOT need to adapt to your mental illness at the risk of bringing back my own. |
Does Jeff know about all the covid denialism in this thread? lol |
Nobody is denying Covid. Posters are simply saying that they're done masking. |
I agree that cases, hospitalizations and deaths will tick upwards in the next few weeks because wastewater levels are rising and there is an uptick in other parts of the world. It's hard for experts to predict exactly how much of a surge will occur in the U.S. but I expect there will be one. Thankfully, there are a lot of tools for anyone who is at high risk to protect themselves (masks and access to test results and antivirals). Hopefully, with the increased availability of Paxlovid and other treatments, those who are immunocompromised should not need to worry about people being unmasked around them. |
I think there is one poster who lives in an alternate reality. She was the one insisting that the delusional Twitter doctor was accurate. |
The delusional twitter doctor who was peddling his book about how mask policies had failed and was arguing that masks were ineffective? Yeah that one is off the rails. |
No, the Twitter epidemiologists and doctors who built their social media profiles off of Covid hysteria. They fear losing relevancy and have a vested interest in pushing doom and gloom. |
It’s used in nearly every disagreement-covid related or not. |
Hmmm. Not sure what doctor you're talking about, but if it's the doctor who studies T cells, he isn't profiting from talking about his research at all, just making the results known to people. Whereas anti-mask guy is trying to sell copies of his book, for sure. But go off. |
Right, Covid is no big deal despite killing mil, ions around the world. Must be nice to have your privilege. |
Well, I guess you've solved it with your highly scientific anecdote : ![]() |
It was reported that Maryland has crossed the 14,000 deaths from COVID benchmark recently. It did make me pause because it seems like a very low number relative to what we went through in the last two years. There are more than 6,000,000 Marylanders, and the 14k deaths were heavily concentrated among the elderly with health issues. I'm sure a decent percentage would have likely died by now from something else had they never gotten infected from COVID. When I see the cold hard numbers in front of me, it does make me realize how much of what we went through in the last two years was driven by little more than hysteria and fear far more than what was needed. We'd have been much better off with a very different approach to COVID targeted to the high risk demographics. |
This. Also compare the numbers to other causes of death. Can you imagine how much better off if we had instead focused on reducing obesity across the country? |
