I can only speak for myself, but as a parent of an under 5 with lung issues, I'm resigned to masks coming off once my under 5 has a COVID vaccine. I'll probably still be selective about indoor activities we participate in, but once everyone has the option to have a vaccine I think that would be a reasonable time to end mandates. Also, again just speaking for myself, I agree kids with disabilities that are hurt by masks shouldn't wear masks in school now. It is really sad that a robust exemption couldn't have been made. Robust in the sense that it wouldn't be exploited by selfish parents. |
I wonder this too. I know a kid with a condition ACLU is yelling about. Despite the family’s warranted extreme caution he still got Covid (thankfully he was fine, because kids with his condition have entire protocols they use for every respiratory disease, plus yay vaccines!). Universal masking didn’t make him safer enough - but treatment and vaccines did. |
You keep them home because your kids aren't feeling well (so it is only about your kids) or you keep them home so they don't get other kids sick? If the later it is the same with masks. Taking measure to prevent spreading disease to other people. I didn't mean every little sniffle. I should have said something like a yucky runny nose or something like that. |
I wonder if there is any difference between FL and Texas, versus NoVa ? NoVa will never end the restrictions without a requirement. I live in NoVA. 90+% are still wearing masks in grocery stores - it is ridiculous. |
+1. NoVA forced this. |
I keep them home primarily because they don’t feel well. Yes of course it’s about them; I’m their mother. |
Wearing masks right now in indoor settings like grocery stores is completely reasonable. It is ridiculous not to wear masks right now. |
+2. And at a cost of how many millions of $$$ to sue a democratically-elected governor, who’s measure follows countless out of state democrat leaders?? The NOVA counties should be ashamed of how poorly they treat our children (and how they waste our tax revenue). |
I am completely supportive of the use of my taxes to sue Youngkin to protect our children from the selfish ignorant anti maskers on this thread. |
I saw the tweet from the Virginia ACLU a and I inferred form it that they would be suing in federal court that a federal law (the ADA) has been violated.
If they are successful in having the new law deemed in violation of the ADA would this have widespread implications outside of Virginia. Hence would other states that allow unmasked children at school also be in violation of the ADA? |
What are the health conditions that children under 5 have that put them at serious risk for Covid complications? |
x1000 |
I guess anything can happen - but I don’t feel like the ACLU is going to win at a time when vaccines are widely available. I don’t think it’s reasonable to force a young kid who is vaccinated and has had covid to boot, to mask in school anymore, for example. It will be interesting to see what happens. |
THank you for standing up for the common citizens rather than the rich, Mayor Youngkind! |
Why does it bother you that other people choose to wear masks in the grocery store? |
