WOOHOO SB 739 has passed the house- it is on its way to the Governor-

I think people are going insane on their anti-mask platform because they’re sick of the pandemic and want to pretend it’s over. It’s really unfortunate because this new law bans mask mandates and prevents school districts from making sure school can stay open in future waves.

It's just Youngkin trying to grab credit for the pandemic ending. Makes me hate him even more.

Remember this next time a republican claims it is the Dems who the party of big government and republicans are the party of local government.

This was an unusual situation because Dems got drunk on power and didn’t want to give up control once they had a taste. If you watched the discussions in the House and Senate, Dems looked like children who had their favorite stuffed animal snatched away. They were almost crying.

I wish someone could explain to me from a psychological POV exactly why people are losing their minds over this. I cannot believe it’s because they think masks actually “work,” or even if they did, why they think there is enough Covid around to actually worry about. It’s something much deeper that is driving people to near madness. I would love to understand better

Some people have their vaccine and don't care about kids under 5 with health conditions that put them at risk for COVID.

PP again. It’s way more than that. I have 2 unvaccinated kids under 5 and I don’t give it a second thought. Granted, they don’t have unusual health conditions but if they did, I would view it as my responsibility to protect them. Not everyone else.

PreCOVID I didn't think there was anything anyone else could do to help protect my kids. COVID has shown me there is a lot that if everyone does will protect my kids and enable my kids to participate in society. We all locked down in March 2020. We all wore masks and social distanced for a really long time to protect the vulnerable. The only thing I can see that has changed is more people have vaccines and they're tired of the inconveniences. It has been so fascinating to hear conversations change from people fearing they will die from COVID to relief they have a vaccine to being tired of masking and just wanting to get back to normal. It seems to me that a lot of people have their protection (vaccine) and can't be bothered to help anyone else. So much for "we're in this together." I find it especially despicable when those left without a vaccine option are children, under 5, and especially the under 5s with health conditions that put them at risk for COVID complications.

+1. I think it was when we found out masks don't really stop the spread that we decided that the costs outweighed the benefits. I don't think 16 year olds should be allowed to drive because they might run over my children. See how it works?

The fact that Dem governors are also dropping mask mandates makes your assessment sound even more ridiculous than it did when he was elected based on making it a choice for parents.

We learned masks do not work. Keep your kids at home if they are vulnerable. That is the safest you can get.

Virginia did not do what those Democratic governors did. They ended statewide mandates but allowed local district to make their own rules. Virginia has banned local discretion making it like FL and TX.

And here’s one lawsuit:

FCPS’s school board met with their lawyers this afternoon too. What about APS? Guess is they’ll be moving together.

I think the fight to get in person school showed us that local districts can’t be trusted.

Do you feel that way when your kids are coughing a lot and sneezing all over the place? When they have pink eye? When they've thrown up or had diarrhea in the past 24 hours? in those circumstances do you still take them to daycare or play dates or classes where they're sharing toys and germs with other kids? In those situations do you feel it it is all of the other parents' responsibilities to keep their own kids home if they want to keep them from getting your child's cold, stomach bug, or pick eye?

Remember that fight was a whole year ago. Everyone insisting that we have so much better information now that it is 2022 seem to forget how much of that "new info" came about in the past year.

I'm assuming ACPS will join them. This just sucks, my kid does have a disability that masks are definitely not helping and actively hurting, but ACLU isn't interested in those kids I guess. Everything I've seen about the cases they are representing are for kids for whom it will literally never be safe to unmask, ongoing lung issues, significantly immunocompromised. So is that the end game?

Not that I see the relevance of these questions but of course I do. If they are (really) sick, I keep them home because they don’t feel well. I do not keep them home for every little sniffle. What does that have to do with why people have gone insane to advocate for masking?

I disagree with you. I think people who use that anger for political purposes can’t be trusted. I think people who want to ban books and avoid teaching accurate history can’t be trusted. Schools are open in person and have been for nearly a year. It was a novel pandemic and the federal government was led by someone pretending that it didn’t exist, would go away like magic and that bleach should be injected into bodies. The school boards were left to figure out public health by themselves. They were over cautious but not evil or against children or obsess with power as these people are saying now. They tried and they made mistakes. That doesn’t mean they can’t be trusted!
