Private School Lacrosse Thread

Churchill played Landon and lost like 15-3.

Public school lacrosse in the DMV is light years behind.

Not true, Robinson played Landon right last year for a half. The Rams were leading after the 1st Q before the Bears pulled away.

Believe me there are plenty of individual players who play on public’s who could easily start at programs like a Landon, GP or Gonzaga

Bullis has a Frosh goalie who is supposed to be unreal....

From which club?

Goalie is from Express 2021...

the two best players on the DCE 2021 team are the Bullis goalie and a Landon middie. Both will play big time minutes for their varsity teams as freshman.

This is a tough one to answer with the changes in recruitment rules.

What are the changes?

No actual recruiting until junior year. So no early freshmen commits. For the best.

An alternative early predictor is to take a look at the clubs - odds are DC Express, Madlax and VLC 2021s will be the pool from which the impact players in the WCAC and IAC will be coming from.

The Bears had more top 25 wins than Calvert Hall. (Bullis twice, Brunswick, and St. Ignatius)

Move on......

Exactly the point - Landon shouldn't have been ranked that high. I'm not saying they weren't a good team, but no way were they #1. These rankings don't reflect reality. I mean IL put Bullis higher than McDonough. McDonough destroyed Bullis when they played. Face it. The IAC had a down year. Landon didn't play one MIAA team in the top 5, and BARELY squeaked by the WCAC teams, none of which were ranked - that's while winning almost every face off. OVERRATED.

the goalie is legit, but that Express team is loaded with middies and LSM's which will find there way on field this spring.

Your rational doesnt make sense.....

Calvert Hall had two bad losses last year, losing by multiple goals to philly based programs. Calvert Hall played an average out of conference schedule at best.

You fail to mention Landon’s Ws over SI and Brunswick. The sport has outgrown Baltimore and you are foolish if you think the only way to prove you are national powerhouse is beating the “top 5 in Baltimore

The reality is the Bears had the best FOGO in the country on their roster last year and it paid huge dividends. Shockey was the difference maker. They ran the table against everyone they faced. Maybe Darien from CT is the only other team I could see ranked higher than a Landon last spring and I think some polls might have done that.

Landon deserved to be number 1 last season based on their performance on the field.

HOWEVER, Landon will not play Calvert Hall, McDonogh, Boys Latin, or Loyola. The only top team Landon has played in the MIAA over the past several years was Loyola (Landon lost 2016) and St Mary's (at the start of the season before St Mary's went on a great final 3 week run). Landon does play Spalding, Mount St Joe, St Marys and Gilman--these 4 teams comprise the 4 bottom teams in the MIAA in Baltimore.

Gonzaga and Bullis play Boys Latin, Loyola, and Mcdonogh. Landon cherry picks its schedule and avoids the tougher talent in Baltimore. Going to Baltimore and beating a tough team is very difficult. Landon relies on its rich tradition to be ranked higher than they may deserve. (But not last year) the 2017 ranking was legit, but Landon needs to play the top schools in Baltimore to prove it is the best in the Mid Atlantic.

loyola blakefield was terrible last year. They loss to Georetown Prep by a goal, a GP team Landon was thrashing 9-0 in the 2nd quarter Bordley called the dogs off. Landon could have won that game 20-2 if they had wanted to.

BL and McDonogh have been scrimmages on Landon's schedule for 20 plus years, maybe with Coach B stepping down after this season, the schedule will change.

"Landon will not play Calvert Hall etc" where are you getting this from? Unless you are an insider that's a bold statement.

When you play the best team from the West Coast, SAint a Ignatious, the best team from New England, Brunswick, and beat them both, I think you've made a huge statement.

Why don't Calvert Hall ever play SI or Brunswick when they come into town?

Hopefully a few of the privates will release their schedules soon!

Who should have been national champs last year then? I would love to hear your explanation....

Landon played the 5th hardest schedule last Spring according to Laxpower SOS.

Buhahaha. National Champions - that's funny. There's no such thing, but if there were one, it would have been Calvert Hall. Best team I've ever seen play.

LOL. You must have just started watching lacrosse, Dad. The Boys Latin team from a few years ago would have absolutely destroyed the Calvert Hall team. Get some perspective.

Stop it. If Robinson had GP jerseys on it would have been 20-5. Everyone needs to understand when the privates play the publics it’s like a fun exhibition game. No one is stressed and there are plenty of liberal substitutions. Yes the good public’s have great players that would start, but there isn’t a public that can start 10 to hang with an average IAC or WCAC team.

Having said that the DCE 2021 parents need to relax, your kids haven’t shown or done ANYTHING on the field yet. Talk next summer about your studs when they get varsity minutes. Until then, you just sound like green goofy parents.

+1 The difference is the depth. There are some very good public players but the private school teams have more players that have been playing longer with better coaching.
