Single Issue Voter: Controlling The Borders

Anonymous
People keep assuming that any immigrants in the United States are always going to welcome more immigrants but that isn't the case. My family immigrated legally to the United States and no one supports illegal immigration because it took so long and so many hoops to come legally. Here is an estimation on wait times if you want a family reunion visa:

How Long Does It Take Siblings of U.S. Citizens To Get a Green Card?
The process usually takes 14-16 years for siblings of U.S. citizens. However, it depends on your home country:

For citizens of India, the process can take 16+ years
For citizens of Mexico, 20+ years
For citizens of the Philippines, 24+ years.

So if you are an immigrant and became a US citizen and can afford to bring over a sibling and support that sibling until they are established so they won't be a burden if you want to do it legally you are going to wait years and years. Meanwhile the wait is going to be even longer because so many people are cutting in line.

So most immigrants who came legally are not supporting what is happening at all.

If you have family from India, Mexico, the Philippines it makes more sense to have your relative appear at the border and claim asylum especially if they are pregnant or plan to have children. Their case will take so long they will be established in the country by the time their case is heard. Then if you have a child in the US while you are waiting you can petition to stay saying it would be a hardship for your US citizen child to leave.

BREAKING: Per CBP sources, there were more than 12,600 migrants encountered at the southern border in the last 24 hours, the highest single day total ever recorded. The true number is *significantly* higher because there are thousands still waiting to be processed in Eagle Pass and they do not count in the numbers until they are put into the computers.
The official numbers yesterday include over 11,000 Border Patrol apprehensions of illegal immigrants and more than 1,600 migrants encountered at CBP ports of entry.
This breaks the record of 12,000 encounters that was set just two weeks ago.

If that’s true, this is an invasion, not immigration.

Remember all those migrants on trains a couple weeks ago? They have arrived. And, more are coming.

And, clueless Joe is twiddling his thumbs. There is absolutely no urgency from the WH because this is their plan.

It is not “their plan”. I agree it’s a problem but you’re simplifying a complex issue by trying to blame it on Biden and the democrats.

That is because Biden has made this a problem. He has done absolutely NOTHING to secure the border and instead finds ways to more rapidly process migrants for mass release. It is a magnet for more to come. And, having done nothing to secure the border for 3 years, our only conclusion is that this is indeed his plan.
And, for 3 years, only 1 Democrat has spoken out against his border "policies." Henry Cuellar.

So Karie Hobbs is not sending the National Guard to stop them from crossing and help secure the border. She is sending them to help the illegals get into our country more efficiently and expediently. We must vote out the Democrats to save our country.

You don't seem to understand that the National Guard cannot legally be used to augment Border Patrol in "securing the border." But they can be used for other logistics. You also don't seem to understand the difference between someone sneaking across the border illegally versus someone legally presenting themselves at a border crossing requesting asylum, and what the laws are around those two very different scenarios. How about educating yourself a bit.

DP. And this is exactly why one of the Republicans' proposals is to greatly tighten up the requirements for asylum - since we are all well-aware that the current standards are far too low. Most of these migrants are simply looking for jobs and do not meet any of the criteria for asylum. They should be turned back immediately.

If republicans cared so much they would fund the infrastructure to process these asylum seekers quickly. Cartels have a billion dollar industry set up now smuggling immigrants in. They tell them exactly what to say to get “asylum”. None of these migrants qualify, but our current court system will get to them in approximately 12 years. So of course it’s worth it for them to come.
We don’t need to legislate new wording to these laws. We need the docket space to process in 12 days, not years.
Immigrants won’t be willing to pay the cartels.

Wake me up when republicans want to fund the infrastructure for processing.
Till then, abortion and bodily autonomy is my number one voting issue ( and this is my first time posting that)

You're asking the Republicans to fund stuff because cartels are holding a gun to our heads. You realize that, right? That's your solution.

Are you ever in favor of fixing the real problem?

WTF are you even talking about? I am saying take away the industry. Period. If migrants get turned right back around, they won’t pay to come. I’m saying destroy the industry.
Don’t be an idiot.

The bar for asylum already is high. 80% plus of people presenting themselves looking for asylum don't meet the criteria. But the problem is, our infrastructure for making those determinations has been completely overwhelmed and saturated, and we're stuck with broken laws that don't let us immediately turn asylum seekers around and send them home. Nor do we have any funding for anyplace to put them. Nor do we make it possible for them to work and support themselves while their cases are being adjudicated.

The Republicans have done NOTHING to fix the infrastructure problem. Have done NOTHING to fix the broken laws. Have done NOTHING about somewhere to put them given they haven't fixed the laws to allow us to send them away without their cases being heard and adjudicated, and given the rest of the broken system, that's a multi-year backlog. Have done NOTHING to make it so they can support themselves while awaiting adjudication.

This crisis is NOT the fault of Republicans. Somehow, both Obama and Trump managed the border much more effectively than Biden.

This is a crisis made by Biden. He essentially invited migrants to "surge the border." They did exactly what he asked for. He overturned any and all policies that were in place that were working. This is a problem of HIS making. To claim otherwise is pure ignorance. Or, denial.

Dp-
Here let me help you out.
Social media wasn’t as prevalent during the previous administrations. It wasn’t as pervasive and ubiquitous, especially in the third world. Smart phones became more prevalent in developing countries around 2018.
This crisis isn’t because of Biden. It’s because technology makes it easy for cartels to communicate and move people.
The explosion of human traffic correlates with access of tech and the ramp up from cartels to get their new business up and running.

OMG. You actually believe the utter nonsense you're spewing, don't you? That's truly one of the most absurd posts I've read. This crisis is indeed due to Biden and his feckless insistence on ending migrant protocols that were working. You truly need to educate yourself.

I feel like we're living in an alternate universe. The Biden administration should be so ashamed. I agree with a lot of the comments in that Twitter post.

Most definitely. I live in a neighborhood full of (LEGAL) immigrants from all over the world. They are all appalled by what our border has become, especially in light of the many years they all waited to come here, get green cards, and apply for citizenship. What a slap in the face to then see millions of illegal immigrants swarming the border - and being allowed in to the country. There is simply zero excuse for this and securing the border will be my top issue in the election.

Lots of young single men. What could go wrong.

I can see why so many Brits are outraged at the unchecked immigration in their own country - we seem to be mirror images of each other in that way. Same with the Netherlands. Give me a Geert Wilders or a Rishi Sunak right about now.

Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin.

They are united in engineering mass immigration.

Trump wanted to stop it. That’s why they have tried to liquidate him at every turn.

Everyone who is concerned about the mass invasion at the border needs to vote Trump in 2024. He is the only leader who will stop the invasion.
