Leftists here arguing that illegals are a boon the the economy but that also Biden is aggressively trying to stop illegal immigration.

Ok. Carry on.

That article talks about asylum seekers. Not illegal immigrants.

+ it isn’t for 40,000 people. When he says $1.5 to $2 billion, that shows he’s just making up numbers. He’s trying to get feds to pay for services for a lot more than refugees, including homeless and others who are not immigrants.

All those Republican agribusinesses, construction companies, etc. can’t function without undocumented workers to exploit.

Other than right to life/abortion issue is anyone else approaching the next presidential election as a single issue voter ?

If other than right to life/abortion, what is that issue ?

We already know your party affiliation dude. It’s not like you buried it here.

Prioritizing your hate for 2.76M undocumented border crossings over the disenfranchisement of 167.5M U.S. citizens is always a tell.

The funny thing to me is that so much of what is energizing right wing populism is the border.

If democrats would help stop illegal immigration, the right wing would scrape off a lot of energy.

If you want your abortions, you may have to close the border first.

Weird how those states where abortion was actually put to a vote— red states— support it by huge margins. Looks like people leave their right-wing populism at the polling place door when the alternative is dying of sepsis.

I personally work with Hispanic immigrants in our local community and they are some of the most generous, warm and family focused people I have ever met. I also personally have known and experienced so many totally F’d up American families that I just can’t understand why anyone would want to disparage immigrants like that. It’s just pure ignorance. Get out of your bubble and actually talk to some of these people before you spend so much time whining about them. We could learn from them and strengthen our communities and families but instead you trade insults and innuendo.

Arguments like this are so absurd. No one is criticizing individual illegal immigrants or saying they're not warm and generous. The fact is, however, they are in the country ILLEGALLY - they hopped the line, in front of thousands of others, waiting for YEARS to enter. And somehow, because those you happen to know personally are great people and "family-focused," all is excused in your mind. No matter that plenty of OTHER family-focused, warm, generous people are following the laws and waiting until it's legal to enter. Just admit it: laws don't matter to you.

Well here’s someone who won’t be smuggling any more fentanyl over the border

They would just hype some other exaggerated or imaginary grievance against people of color. It’s what they do.

How can Republicans say they are in favor of saving lives when 46 days into 2023 there have been 69 mass shootings. So, other than right to abortion , my single issue is that I will never vote for a Republican.

I am fiscally conservative and I like these numbers. So if I were single issue, Gee then Dem it is, to quote PP.

OMG!!!!!

The article says Immigrants. It does not say Illegal Immigrants (Migrants). So perhaps Legal immigrants who come here and work contribute much more to the treasury than is taken out. Sure. I’m a legal immigrant and have been working here for past 24 years. But my family was screened, and we entered the USA the right way.

I’ll rust the NY Mayor, Adams, who says they have a crisis and the Illegal Immigrants who are paying ZERO in taxes will cost the city 2 Billion dollars this year to house, feed, and take care of them. That is just the 40k migrants they have in NY! How about the other 1-2 million that have come here since last year?

Exactly. Liberals love to conflate legal and *illegal* immigrants, as if they're the same group. They are not.

I think the real issue is that conservatives ignore the asylum laws, and pretend like asylum seekers are here illegally.

We need more immigration courts to handle the flow of asylees. We also need to change our asylum laws.
