Any word on the new NVSL rules for the summer?

All-star Relays? That’s a no and off the table.

Talking with our swim rep part of the problem is that if you set a rule that non-vax need to mask, they can't be trusted. At this point the only people not vaxxed are those who believe it's not necessary, and therefore also likely believe masks are unnecessary.

CDC has said risk is very low of outdoor transmission but still large gatherings should be avoided if unvaxxed and/or unmasked. Half of any swim team is not vaxxed simply due to age. Between kids and adults you can have potentially 400-500 people in a given space. Reasonable adults can have very different opinions on what is an acceptable level of risk.

Let me guess…Div 1 parent.

No tears here over all star relays being cancelled.

My kids are terrible swimmers and I don’t see the logic in cancelling all star relays.

These two statements contradict each other.

To clarify if it wasn't obvious to you, those not vaxxed by choice are adults. Those unvaxxed due to age are children.

To add: That’s the only meet off the table right now.

It wasn’t obvious the way it was written.

Thanks for clarifying.

The chances of asymptomatic kids spreading it to each other, outside, in a pool, is basically zero. But those concerned are free to wear and make their kids wear masks. It’s quite simple to accommodate.

If someone is worried than they don't need to attend. Or they can require all adults to wear masks just for this meet. The NCAA softball World Series has packed, unmasked crowds right now all day.

At All-Star relays, kids are in their team area most of the times fully spaced from other teams. Each team can set their own rules for their team area. They can make clerk of course spaced out and then on deck kids aren’t next to opponents/adults for a few minutes. CDC defined close contact as 15 minutes. NVSL Board shouldn’t have canceled All-Star Relays and they certainly shouldn’t have done it without consulting team reps. My kids have been in all-star relays for years (not D1). It is my least favorite meet - it is hot, you car barley see, caps and T-shirts cost way too much - but my kids love it and they bond with their team. This years seniors deserved the option of having it.

It was pretty obvious given the context clues.

Swimming is not my kids main sport and they would never qualify for relays, but what a huge bummer for the kids who love swimming, missed out on last year completely, and now have relays canceled for no logical reason at all. Makes no sense.

My kid is disappointed, but she’s only 12. I feel bad for the hs seniors.

They didn’t have to be and maybe they won’t be in the end.

We all know the science and the CDC guidelines and now it is up to NVSL and our individual pools to take those guidelines and make policy that will please most people most of the time. So still time to make your voice heard.
