Any word on the new NVSL rules for the summer?

Now CDC is saying it is safe for vaccinated people to go maskless almost anywhere, and definitely outside.

Start talking to team reps and NVSL ? board memebers

That’s the rub. I’m one who thinks masks for all is unnecessary outdoors for meets, but I’m betting they are looking those who can’t yet be vaccinated (11 and under).

Then I guess these teams will lose officials. I’m not going to volunteer if I have to wear a mask while outside and vaccinated.

Sounds like that might be the case, but there’s no official word yet. I’d prefer to not wear a mask, of course but I figure it’s not so bad if it means we can get an otherwise normal swim season in.

Aren’t we jumping the gun? They haven’t sent out any update yet.

It isn’t out officially but they’ve already met, made the decision and reps have been told.

I’d put pressure on the board memberships as I don’t think the swim reps have any vote/say in this.

It’s great that they want to look out for the 11 and under group BUT this same group has been playing sports like soccer outdoors without masks for the past year! They are also together at swim practice and at the pool without masks. The point being that if this group can be massless outdoors for every other aspect of their life, how does making them wear a mask on a Saturday morning achieve anything?

Never mind the fact that not everyone is rushing out to get their 12/13 vaccinated.

I’m a team rep and haven’t heard or read any updates. Where did other reps hear? Email? Division coordinator?

Any news about individual all-stars, all-star relays, Divisionals...?

i don't think that there has been any word on the division meets. Just hearing from NVSL officials and division coordinators the A meet rumors on everyone on deck wearing masks. This is going to be tough when we are not requiring it for B meets and with the current guidelines the only ones wearing masks should be the unvaccinated when they are "hanging out" waiting to swim.

This might be a byproduct of some of the upper division pools who are in leadership. Not sure. But it seems crazy to be pushing masks on a vaccinated person outdoors. I know our reps have expressed their frustration with this idea and we did hear that it was voted on - hoping that they reevaluate.

Why can't the NVSL say either bring proof of vaccination or wear a mask (for officials). That seems the fairest, best way to do this. Might even encourage some folks to hurry up and get vaxxed if they haven't already.

They actually can do this and so can the pools. It would be the smartest thing to do.

Most people I know keep a photo of their vaccine card saved to their phone.

Hopefully you're at a pool that doesn't require volunteers otherwise your kid won't swim. I'm vaccinated and will hate having to stand on deck wearing a mask, but my children love summer swim and they need parent volunteers for it to work. Minor sacrifice and inconvenience for my kids.

This might be the issue. At an average B meet you might have 300 kids, and most of their time is spent sitting in close quarters "hanging out" waiting for their events to come up. They may be trying to set the standard at A meets to provide coverage for pools who want to take a more cautious approach at B meets.

Personally I'd be all for having adults show their vaccine cards to be on deck.

I get it but it’s messed up. I’m not making my young kids wear a mask to go to the pool this summer. So having a different requirement for swim team and the face that this is not the case in most the country this summer is just messed up.

How can we alert NVSL board of our disagreement and request the decision for vaccinated officials and volunteers be masked to be re evaluated?

Looks like VDH and FCPS athletics have changed or are changing policy for vaccinated coaches, refs, athletes.

People need to pivot and get with the times, not cling to Feb 2021 ideas.
