Yes this is exactly it. It’s the parents who hover over their kids and pass their anxiety to their kids that need the break. The kids are stressed because of the parents who are putting a lot of pressure on them and who don’t want to accept that they won’t have this type of control in just a couple years. Kids who will be successful in life can handle a lot of things and are mentally tough. They’ll shoot ahead of all the kids who constantly need breaks. |
| Is it almost time to make fun of the posters that said the storm would miss us? |
First of all, many college students have very little free time these days between work and campus involvement. Second, your child is about to have an entire week of free time to get work done, and you’re complaining. Way to teach your kid to toughen up and handle it. |
What do you think the midterm period and the end of a college semester looks like? All the exams, papers, and projects are due then. You think it’s easier for students to manage work and school? Many are working long hours due to high costs. And the job market sucks so these kids are really feeling the pressure to do additional experiences during undergrad years that make them stand out and build connections. Don set your kind for the idea that college is somehow going to be less stressful. They should be building their time management and resilience now so they don’t crumble when they are out of the house with less of a support system. |
Ok, well my kid is in his second year of college and has a job. Lives at home to save money, but we all make our own choices about things like that. Grades are a/b and time management is still developing. So far, college and work schedule is preferable to my kid, but not everyone will have the same experience. Anyway, back to snow day discussion! When does anyone think they will announce the status for Monday? I predict Sunday around 6pm. |
My vote is 3pm. |
The bigger prediction is when Reid decides we are tough enough to get back to school before Thursday. |
| schools will re open in February |
So true
|
| OPM already called for federal offices to be closed on Monday, expect the FCPS update sometime soon. |
Start a different thread if you want to discuss that. This one is for the snowstorm! |
+1 I agree. 5-6 pm is when they usually announce it for the next day if it’s a massive storm. |
| There's a two day district track meet scheduled for Wed afternoon and Friday at an indoor track in Maryland. Wonder what will happen - I'm guessing Wed may be canceled but Friday happens? |
Someone else introduced the topic by whining that their kid’s HS teacher dared to assign some extra work to keep their class on track, like that’s such a terrible thing. Their poor child will never recover. Anyway, an event that was supposed to take place at a school on Tuesday evening was already postponed, so I assume they are expecting to be closed Monday and Tuesday for sure. |
It’s not up to Reid what VDOT, the county and Mother Nature do. |
