And the current situation is the result of the Palestinians violently rejecting the U.N. partition plan in 1947. Palestinian efforts to replace the U.N. plan with one which would be 100% of land for Palestinians, and 0% for Jews, sounds like genocidal ambition by the Palestinians, true. |

Of course, the Palestinians were welcome in 1947 to remain in the land the U.N. allocated to Israel, where they could have become part of a pluralistic, democratic, first-world success story in the region. The land in question had changed hands repeatedly over the past centuries, so the U.N. plan was merely the last in a long series of changes in territorial governance. Or, those not already there could have relocated to a separate Palestinian state, if they preferred that environment. The current status quo is the result of Palestinian choices. |

Indeed when the dust settled after the 1948 war, over 1/3 of Israel's population was Arab. It is now 1/5th Arab. They are Israeli citizens, they serve in the knesset, they serve on the courts, they are far wealthier than their Gaza peers. But Israel is a Jewish state, much like every other country in the region is a Muslim state. |
