What pathetic "reasoning".   Taking hostages, along with wanton murder and rape, started the conflict, so let's keep on doing what we did to provoke the Israeli response we now complain of.  That "logic" could make sense only to morally and intellectually bankrupt people.  [/quote]

Of course, the Palestinians were welcome in 1947 to remain in the land the U.N. allocated to Israel, where they could have become part of a pluralistic, democratic, first-world success story in the region.  The land in question had changed hands repeatedly over the past centuries, so the U.N. plan was merely the last in a long series of changes in territorial governance.  Or, those not already there could have relocated to a separate Palestinian state, if they preferred that environment.  The current status quo is the result of Palestinian choices.
