Snow Day next Tuesday?

FCPS gets a lot of teachers from PW and Loudon counties. They're going to have to do at least a 2 hour delay or risk tons of teachers being out tomorrow or leaving early.

Too many families will not pick their kids up early.

I have been through many early releases, and I’ve never had a student not get picked up.

Does FCPS even do 3 hr early? Only ever heard of 2.

Well, yes, today we had a 3 h early release. And we will have 7 all together this year, not including snow days. Are you even an fcps parent?

7-8 years ago, there was snow during dismissal and fcps did not close early and dismissal was a disaster. For years, they would close for the smallest chance of snow. I vaguely remember older parents saying they don’t close early, only close full day.

Maybe history will repeat itself and fcps will not close early.

Because it's a tough decision. Storm warning isn't until 12 or 1 pm. Kids will probably be fine with a full day but there's a chance they won't be and it's super chaotic to have a surprise early dismissal.
.

You are insane if you think they’re going all day

Can they just tell us their plan?

Far too much trouble. She’s probably in the middle of a photo opportunity or drafting a 3000 word email about something.

I’ve been watching Anderson Cooper’s X account to get the FCPS update. Since so far nothing, guessing it will be headline for his evening show.

Tell me why you follow Anderson Cooper for this.
Doesn’t he live in NY?

3 hour release is elementary only.

That doesn't work when you are also bussing middle and high schools.

2 hour release is the only time that works with busses

That is really funny.

No wonder why DC moms are so misguided. They are getting their local news from Anderson Cooper.

Can you explain why they can do two hour early release for the whole district, but shifting it by an hour doesn’t work? Is it a lunch period thing?

Those early releases are only for elementary, not high school students. So might be valid that they hadn’t heard of them

Yes it’s lunch. If school is happening, we’re legally required to give lunch to every student, which isn’t super feasible with an 11:15am dismissal for middle school.

3 hr early closing for fcps tmrw

Wow, I’m surprised. At least my school doesn’t have a schedule or contingency plan for 3 hour ER the way we do 2 hour ER and delays. Super curious how this will work.

Day is now 8-11:45, divided by 4 classes = 56 minutes per class with 5-7 minute passing periods = 50 minutes per class.

I’m going to bet tomorrow becomes a senior skip day…
