I get the impulse to see yesterday's events in that way. In simple terms, Elon Musk raised awareness of an issue and members of the voting public communicated their thoughts on that issue to their representatives, who then changed course. If that's the entire analysis, I would agree that this was democracy in action. But that's a superficial analysis. Musk is an edgelord with a poor grip on reality who wants to see the world burn. He threatened to use his enormous financial resources against representatives who didn't vote his way. He presented his followers with blatant misinformation about the bill and absolutely no information about the consequences of not passing a CR. He's not James Madison writing Federalist #10. He's a modern day Commodus giving the thumbs down when the wind hits him the wrong way. |
Wait- why do we need to worry about the debt ceiling if DOGE is going to save billions by cutting govt programs? |
Exactly. Make it make sense. Oh, that's right, they are not serious people and have no plan. |
They have plans, buddy. Trust me. When they get going, you will be squealing like there's no tomorrow. They're just staffing up now. It's going to be a wonderful change. |
Boom, that's it, there's really nothing more. |
Most businesses don't run that way, so let's not pretend that this is normal. |
There is a bit more - a whole bunch of what he tweeted about the CR were lies. |
The way Elon Musk runs his businesses: he doesn't pay rent, he doesn't pay his employees. He breaks contracts. He gets sued a lot and loses. Sounds like the way Trump runs his businesses, tbh. This is not how the federal government runs. |
You win the internet today |
yes we Democrats call this democracy and are more than happy for Republicans to show the electorate how useless and damaging they are. |
I'm all for the shutdown. Democrats just trying to get one last wish list before being locked out of power. |
Democrats have not been locked out of power. The GOP is so fractured and weak that the Dems have power, now and next year. This shutdown just shows more weakness in the Republican party. Weak. |
I am really impressed at how impotent Trump looks in relation to Musk. And I'm impressed that Trump's followers are cool with Trump looking like a beta. Don't they want a strong, powerful leader? |
Given the waste associated with a shutdown I think it's pretty clear DOGE is even more stupid than the acronym sounds. At some point Junior will realize he's calling the wrong man daddy and things will get even worse. |
They have a plan. It’s to funnel as much federal money into their pockets as possible. |
