The answer is literally above, why are you pretending you can’t read it? Negative and stressing impacts on public services and infrastructure. |
Please post the link where Bernie sanders said illegal immigrants were taking blue collar jobs from American workers. What any one on the planet earth knows is that it’s very different. Immigrants are performing important work that Americans simply do not want to do. Who do you think is picking your fruit? Or defending forest fires? We need immigration- and no, not just highly skilled workers like you claim (although as we know, many immigrants arrive who are trained and skilled, but do menial jobs in the US for a time). You are purposely obtuse and a manipulative liar. |
Yes I was surprised to learn with my kid recently that a lot of people were actually turned away even at Ellis island. Some people think that America just accepted everyone back then and it was not the case. Even after they paid the large amount for their ticket here, they still had to show they could financially support themselves, that they were healthy (there was a huge list of things they looked for) and had high moral character. |
https://youtu.be/vf-k6qOfXz0?si=v_Jnw6003fTaud8v Bernie Sanders used to be against illegal immigration, saying it makes Americans poorer and ends America as a nation-state. I don’t believe illegal immigrants are doing jobs Americans won’t do in many instances. I have never heard of Americans being willing to do construction work, for example. I think they are doing these jobs at wages Americans can’t accept and can’t live on. Companies are hiring illegal immigrants out of greed. |
+1 We took the Ellis island tour, too. Yes, they were sent back if they didn't pass the physical or didn't have a sponsor. |
+1. Americans will do any job, for the right wage. I know this from experience/seeing the jobs filled 100% by Americans growing up in a small town with a very low illegal alien population. And to the poster(s) demanding that people cite how illegal immigration has impacted them personally - what an inane notion. I don't have to be personally impacted by murder to be against it. |
You must be a troll. Way to take one piece of what he said out of context. First, it was from a decade ago when unemployment rates were much higher. And he never said he was against immigration, only that he was against open borders as then there would be no concept of a nation state. He then went on to discuss all the policies that he wanted to see enacted including FREE college education at state universities, corporations and wealthy americans paying more, etc. But you ignore that part... |
ILLEGAL immigration |
WRONG. This thread is now filled with trolls. My great grandfather was illegal fwiw. My other side's grandfather was legal and came through Ellis Island. There was none of the sponsorship and proving financial support that the posters here claim. That is a total lie. In fact, the Ellis Island medical exam was called the 'six second exam' because that's how long it took for doctors to screen people for a short list of issues that would make one ineligible for entry to the US. People were screened for obvious serious illnesses or mental deficiencies and only about 2% were sent back. The rest were screened and sent on their way within hours. |
Immigrant and completely agree. Why hasn’t it be tackled yet? Bc everything in this country boils down to money. Cheap labor. Neither side has taken serious measures to deal with employers who hire undocumented immigrants. |
+1. An intelligence test was also given. |
And? The discussion in the video you posted is about open borders. And yes, Bernie says he does not agree with that. You think this is somehow proving your argument and it is not. |
Wrong again. The screening test at Ellis Island typically took less than a minute and essentially everyone passed and made it through within hours of arriving. |
Please tell me how Americans you know from your small town would do any job for the right wage- what were those jobs exactly? And please also explain to me how those 'right wages' affected the ultimate cost of the goods or services being provided? And the effect on whether consumers were then willing to pay for those products and services at that price? I'm waiting... |
And then those immigrants worked their butts off with no social services net. They didn't receive medical benefits, housing allowances, public transportation, college scholarships, and free public education with special education, ESL services, and free meals for their children. There needs to be a limit. |
