Why are ivies and other elite NE schools out, southern schools in?

Vandy is the place for social, smart kids now!

And if you like LACs, top pick is Davidson!

They became enamored with the lifestyle on the campuses of southern schools by watching social media vids of girls getting ready to go to to tailgates at Alabama or UGA. Other types of of events and parties on the campuses of southern schools also had tons of social media coverage. The students themselves post the videos, so all of the southern schools get tons of free marketing. I heard this was also a big trend with all of the friends of my cousins - they’re applying to southern schools. Is the whole NE school a thing of the past?

NP. To put it in millennial/Gen X terms: Because the NE schools are filled with Tracy Flicks and the SE schools are filled with Elle Woodses.

Davidson getting tons of attention from my 11th grader’s cohort.

It’s having a moment.

That’s cool and all but we have actual stats and numbers. Davidson is not that competitive.

Speaking of actual numbers, 14% acceptance is “not that competitive”?

Lower than Carleton, Vassar, etc. and comparable to Midd, Hamilton, Colgate et al.

Not quite Williams or Pomona, but any fair assessment would conclude that it’s competitive.

Unless of course you’re just being a DCUM pedant. In which case, carry on.

I’m reading the recent biography on Gwyneth and she didn’t get accepted anywhere, even coming from Spence. In mean girl fashion, she lashed out at a Barnard-accepted classmate - sneering that it was a fake Ivy.

Interestingly her husband was able to get his kids admitted to Ivies (Cornell, Yale) but she couldn’t buy Apple’s way into one.

She got expelled from her previous high school for bullying.

Neither. The bottom videos are a nightmare of eating disorders, spray tans, and excessive reliance on men to do everything and drive all the decisions in your life. The top is just annoying.
I guess this is the conservative dream, though, which is pretty sad.

Sorry you wouldn’t get a bid.

I'm sorry that you want that so badly.

For all their perceived “shortcomings”, many SEC schools still require test scores, are fairly transparent about admissions and turn out hordes of successful, well-adjusted alums

The majority of SEC schools don’t require SAT scores…only 5 of 16.

Most are transparent because they accept 75%+ of applicants, while the more selective like Vandy, UGA, UT most would consider head scratchers for OOS kids (except Vandy which is a head scratcher for everyone as private).

UGA is the hottest OOS flagship in our school right now.
