The Kennedy position was re-advertised today, 2 months later. What happened?

And now it's been posted again this weekend for the third time.

Guessing the final candidates that made it to Monifa weren't to her liking.

Very surprising. Can anyone with inside knowledge of MCPS principal/admin search processes opine here?

Some of the Principal openings have actually had no candidates apply for the job.

That can’t possibly be true for Kennedy. HS principalship is a pay bump and considered a promotion..

But Kennedy is one of the hardest principalships in MCPS. You need a principal who’s skilled in working with high poverty populations. That’s probably why it’s been reposted.

More likely somebody was offered the job, accepted it, and then either rescinded their acceptance or was offered a job in a different capacity. Happened to our school once where the person selected was "chosen" for about three days and then it was announced that they were going to be in a different position in central office, and we had to start our search all over. In the mean time, that person's name was never given as the new principal. There's no giant ceremony of Monifa needing to approve each principal candidate before they are appointed. They wouldn't be interviewing if they weren't already deemed worthy of principalhood.

This is what I was thinking as well.

Kennedy desperately needs a talented admin to step in. Current one has been asleep at the wheel for some time. The job isn't easy, but that's not an excuse for what's been allowed on his watch.

Agreed. Very surprised that he got promoted after all these years. They deserve a strong leader who knows the challenges of the area/zone.

They may have not had any *qualified* candidates apply for the job.

We had several principal interns at Rosemary Hills and didn't have any of them actually get the job once the principal left. I think it's just a training opportunity, not indicative of whether they will get a job as principal and, if they do, what school they will be assigned to.

Yeah interns don’t get hired at the school they internship at …. However if an intern turns Acting Principal there is a good chance they could get the job I bet (the Goshen elementary example from earlier in this thread)

I don't think Gupta is the acting for the rest of the year; he's the principal intern right now in the part of the year that the principal intern serves as acting principal for 2 months. After that, the other principal will be back.

Check earlier posts in this thread. The other principal is not coming back. She took another job

The Goshen principal's new job as principal of Clarksburg #9 is effective 1/30, so I would expect an announcement any day now of who the acting principal will be at Goshen, and barring any issues during the internship, it's highly likely to be the current principal intern.

Isn't it strange to be starting mid-year?

Did Gupta get the Goshen job permanently?

Nichola Wallen was appointed in March:

Ouch - that must be a slap in the face for him. Is he staying on as AP, or moving elsewhere, I wonder?

He’ll be appointed to another open ES principal position. It’s May 1st and the retirement deadline is here, so more spots will open.

Also - there’s a board meeting this week (Wednesday, I believe), so I’m looking forward to more appointments.

More likely he will go back to AP somewhere for a year. Acting principals tends to be appointed as acting because they haven't met all the eligibility requirements yet but the position needs to be filled. Usually they get the permanent job but it's not a given and not at all uncommon for them to just not be ready yet. They go back to their last successful position to try again.

Was Gupta well-liked? He is going to be the AP at Viers Mill next year.

Woah! Is Ms. Swartz leaving? She is the only sane one at VMES!

Can you expand on this and what is happening at VMES. Also, thoughts on the new AP?

A letter was sent home a while ago. She's going to be a principal intern at Woodfield ES. I don't agree that she's the only sane one there though. She will be missed, but we've been very happy with our kids' experience there.

Brown Station AP leaving. Very skilled. Is she a principal intern or just changing schools?

They have 30 minutes scheduled for the HR section on Thursday's BOE agenda. Probably means a longer than usual list of appointments to be announced.
