It’s painful to watch Democrats turn everyone into fragile snowflakes always looking to be offended and patting themselves on the back for their wokeness. Does anyone really think she has any malice or disrespect towards towards disabled people? Acceptable usage of what were once common words change over time. So she didn’t completely expunge all remnants of the word from her vocabulary and one slipped through the cracks. She made a mistake and apologized. Move on people! All you’re doing is driving moderates towards the anti democracy R’s!

Sure, sure. The failure with your argument is that if *anyone else* had used a slur, KKG herself would be loudly denouncing them and calling for them to resign. If we all want to end this culture of victimhood and wokeness, then everyone is going to have to agree to stop cancelling people for minor infractions. But we're all quite aware that Democrats will never stop cancelling people. So here we are. What's good for the goose, and all that...

We could all agree to restore sanity and stop rampant cancel culture across the board. Well that would be best for society and our future.

The pendulum is unfortunately swinging in the OPPOSITE direction; students increasingly want to take “cancel” to the next level: physical violence against people (no, I am not kidding):

From the article linked just above:

“A new survey of the top 150 colleges in the United States found that nearly 25 percent of students believe it is acceptable to use violence to shut down a controversial speaker on campus.

At several elite women’s colleges, the number shockingly jumps to nearly 50 percent.”

There was an incident at W&M last month. A pro-choice student was arrested and charged with assault after throwing urine (yes, urine) at a group of pro-choice/anti-abortion students. I don't care what side of the issue you're on, throwing urine at people you disagree with is gross and unacceptable.

Repeat - this issue is as much about cancel culture as it is about climate change. Cancel culture is when speakers are denied an opportunity to voice their dissenting or uncomfortable views even though they have every legal right to do so. This is done via ostracizing them, social boycotts and as you suggest, violence.

The case in hand is of a school board member who was elected on a platform of inclusivity. She continues to champion social justice initiatives that are anchored around inclusivity. She has been a repeat offender in using a slur that is universally considered abhorrent in social settings and even more so in a formal educational setting. She is an elected representative who is being held to account. She is not being cancelled. If she wants to get on TV and spout her views, she is most welcome too. But when she sits on stage as an FCPS Board member, she represents us and she is accountable to us.

So while we can agree on a cancel culture gone wild, this is not an example of that.

LJC has chimed in and she too is not here to play:

“Before I let you go to enjoy the beautiful leaves and incredible fall weather, I do want to take the opportunity to address what happened at our Board meeting on October 20th. It is NEVER okay, not in ANY setting, situation, or context, to say the “R-word”. It is incredibly harmful to our students and community. My own child has suffered this insult from bullies in their life. This slur does not belong in our classrooms, our hallways, our community, and most certainly not in the mouths of leaders in our school system. “

They may have decided to make further edits to the letter. The substance is the same, but some of the sentences appear to have been edited.

Noticed they call the current School Board "completely dysfunctional and never * * * capable of strong actions on behalf of the community it purports to serve."

Many would agree with that assessment, although perhaps not for the same reasons espoused by the Fairfax NAACP.

According to Sujatha Hampton:

"The original [NAACP letter] said that we accepted KKG's apology, but it was not ours to accept, hence we revised."

Of note is the vicious attack on Sizemore Heizer as if she was the perpetrator and Keys Gammarra was the victim. A couple of lines on KKG and a whole para throwing up on RSZ.

What a loser. The original version was ridiculous in that it accepted KG’s apology so easily but skewered SH for no reason. Sounds like they left that in. They have no understanding of what people outside their little bubble think.

And good for Cohen for not keeping quiet in the face of this extremist pressure.

Sujatha really is a piece of work. Tom Wolfe would have skewered HER.
