This kind of sensibility didn’t sit well with him all his life probably, and along came Meghan and told him that he deserves more and that they should blow it all up for the sake of freedom. Except freedom in California, away from the land of your forebears and your extraordinary heritage, does not seem to be fulfilling for Harry and he’s sad his kids are missing out on all the pomp of being royals. People who are not from class based societies don’t fully grasp what he gave up, I feel.

I can see this. She gave him a taste of American-style individualism and he seems like he got into some New Age/empowerment stuff too that seems very Hollywood. But they have nothing to offer on their own and they would have been better off becoming the Edward-Sophie of the next generation; appearing places dressed well, smiling and not saying anything. They wouldn't have to constantly hustle as they are now. I can see them eventually divorcing.

Exactly. American style individualism requires smarts and wits in order to succeed. I don’t think either of them is intelligent.

She is. She was an American woman in her mid 30’s of mixed race and not of high income, fame, or status who moved to a foreign country and within less than a year made enough contacts/friends to direct her to the Prince and in less than a year, gets married. She did what Kate and family waited for ten years in one year.

Kate and William were college sweethearts with common friends and close bond with her family.

William treated Kate awfully and cheated on her throughout the 10 year courtship. The press essentially gave her an eating disorder by calling her Weighty Katy.

He did not care or protect her from the press. Maybe he was the one feeding them the stories. We don’t know. I believe Harry is telling the truth when he explains his brother leaks these stories to the press in order to keep his own stories out of the media.

It was waity katie, as in she is waiting around for him, not referencing her weight. I do not think she has been nit picked over being heavy, ever, as she has never been heavy.

Well, makes sense. H&M are loud about representing their perception of the issue. When giving them airtime, its only fair to give audience legal facts and royal explanation.

Once Meghan got a taste of that life, she didn’t want less. Harry had taken it completely for granted. Now they have to do it on their own since there won’t be any more huge inheritance windfalls and media offers have dropped off precipitously. I predict Meghan will convince Harry to include the children in future media since people ARE interested in the kids, especially since they have kept them hidden and William’s children will have greater roles and media coverage.

They broke up and as he was neither engaged nor married, dating other people was neither inappropriate nor cheating. Imho dating other women made him realize that Kate was better suited as his life partner than others.

And then she messed that all up and now shills on Instagram in CA while insisting on being called Duchess. She was manipulative but she's not that intelligent because she lacks consuderation of long term consequences.. She can't be that smart to have thrown away their life in England to play royal in California.

She got the spare, a much easier feat than the heir, especially when the former is as dumb as a post. I don’t think she’s smart (anyone who has heard her platitude filled talk in any interview will recognize this) but I definitely think she is driven and thinks very highly of herself, which I admire.

The spare is a better catch. They have enormous wealth together without royal duty. I feel for them and I think it has come out as fact not rumor that they were often thrown under the bus the protect Will and Kate. Lots of family dysfunction.

I do think Meghan is bright, but not as savvy as she thinks and the self-absorption and arrogance are comical. The way she corrected her "friend" regarding her title was over the top. I saw a clip of Meghan in an interview saying she has written her kids an email every day since birth or something like that and they will get access to that email when older. Someone did a spoof pretending to be a grown up child of Meghan saying "Wow, 60000 emails, just what I've always wanted. Oh and you keep writing them. Greeeeaaaat. Thanks. I'll totally read of all these."

A spare is NOT a better catch if you want to be the center of attention. Meghan thought she and Harry would reign over US hearts and wallets and not have to defer to Kate and William. She thought they would schmooze with the Obamas and be invited to all the A-list events as the only American royals.

I think you're right on this – there will be some kid thing in the future. And it will be the breaking point for the marriage.

It was Fergie who was constantly criticized for her weight.

Marrying any prince, heir or spare, has its pros and cons but to be fair so does any other marriage.

I look at the trajectory of her life and think she must be incredibly smart and driven to have risen from obscurity to landing herself a real life prince! But then… I watch her interviews and she appears so self obsessed and narcissistic it’s funny and sad! How does she see anything clearly enough to strategize and plot for self gain? She sounds delusional and mentally unwell!

I do wonder how she got to meet Prince Harry and what did she do to make him want to marry her!

Eventually, they'll have to use children, to maintain their opulent lifestyle. You can absolutely expect them to choreograph something grand and lucrative for children's future, in politics or something else.

Imho some billionaire benefactors wanted to bring Harry to US and marry a rising star and take her to the White House but they overestimated his political clout and her ability. On paper, she was perfect for the role but in reality, she wasn't the right choice.

I seriously love the hot takes that come out in these threads.

Both Harry and Megan were is age and career bracket where they were desperate to get married and build a fortune. It probably wasn't difficult to get them to hitch their wagons together.
