Black Ops for WSYL

Anonymous
U14 will have a current coach from each of the clubs, VLC, NL, and DCE...none of them have sons on the team. This was told to the boys at the tryout this weekend.

Looked like a great group of kids out there on a beautiful day!

Nothing was said to the boys on numbers but just that they could expect to hear news by end of week at the latest.

So everything else is speculation at this point. Will be interesting to see how all the local WSYL teams do at this event!

U14s should be among the favorites to win it all given that DCE and NL would have had good shots to qualify in the East region on their own. A combined NL/DCE with VLC pitching in a couple of players seems really good. Seems likely that BO and Madlax qualify there easily and are among the favorites.

For U13s, it’s a little less clear given that probably none of teams were in contention to qualify on their own. Is a combined VLC and BLC with some NL added in competitive with Hawks and Tigers? I guess it depends on how many holdbacks those teams have. Will be a tough East qualifier with Hawks, Tigers, Black Ops, Madlax, Towerman and whatever teams or combination comes for Crabs and Looneys (lots of hold backs likely an issue for those two though).

But best of luck to both teams and Madlax. Would be nice to see DC beat Long Island.

The 13u team will be mostly VLC unless there is some sort of equity agreement. They clearly had the better part of the better players and most of their roster is already on age. NL only has a couple of over age kids and they are not as good a team to begin with for some reasons dating back 2 years ago. NL had 3-4 standouts at the tryout. BLC only had 3-4 standouts also. It was also obvious to anyone who has watched the teams play BLC was missing most of their better players due to the age cutoff or absence.

Agee as it relates to the U13's. My son did both ML and Black Op's tryouts so he could get some exposure to the tryout process. Not sure either group can compete w Hawks and Tigers on their own. They had a chance if they would have done just one team, but no way are all those clubs going to get along enough to pull that off. Oh well. Will be fun either way.

I disagree with your defeatist attitude. Hawks are primarily good because of their holdbacks. Sure they have some good players but not significantly better than those who showed up at the Black Ops tryouts. The Hawks second string would also be second string at other clubs. My view is the Hawks have pretty significant risk to their “were no.1” reputation. Too much pressure to win it all, especially without their holdbacks to prop them up.

100% true that the VLC 2026 dad coaches will be coaching. They will be on the other sideline and post game coaching in the SUV’s

I think the real question will be whether teams that are forming for this one event (Monument and Black Ops) can form better teams than those that remained essentially in tack - like Hawks and Tigers. I guess we will see this summer.

I think NL would have had too many players who don't meet the age cutoff to compete

Don't know about the 14u's but the 13u's for NL have 2 from the 2026 roster. VLC has 3. BLC has 10+. None of the older VLC players from the 27's are good enough to make a difference for VLC to have gone on their own. The 27 NL team is exceptional but the 26's aren't very good. The bulk of the older BLC 27 team walked to ML with a few going to the 27's at NL so they provide 0 help to BLC going on their own.

I heard conflicting info on when there will be feedback, either Wednesday (today), or the end of the week, or "within a week" which I guess means Sunday. But whatever was said is just an estimate anyway, so who knows.
