Old white guys get nominated when Democrats are operating from a place of fear. See: Joe Biden’s 2020 Presidential primary campaign rescued by strategic black voters in the South. Franchot is gonna win this, just watch. |
Hell no Extremely weathly here never ever voting republican again nor is anyone in our circle Nope never republican ex republican They lie they cheat they ruined this country Raising taxes not on my vote social security gone not on my vote |
If you live in Maryland, I am going to guess that you are either new to MD or your life is completely structured around DC. Roe will have zero impact on the democratic primary and the overturn of Roe does not favor Franchot, who is not running a progressive campaign. The campaign will 100% be about who’s supporters vote and how many. Franchot has the advantage that he has a lot of name recognition and people have voted for him multiple times in the past. However, despite living in Takoma Park, he has a disadvantage in that he is least popular with people of color and consequently will have a challenge in the high population areas of the state, including Montgomery and PG Counties and Baltimore City. His base is primarily to quintessential Maryland conservative Democratic voter, who is white, drives a big SUV and lives in the suburbs/exurbs. He will undoubtedly win the white areas of the Eastern Shore, Frederick, Howard, Carroll and Anne Arundel. He also has a good chance to pick up a lot of votes in Baltimore County, which is a big county with a lot of people. But will that be enough votes? Maybe, considering that the remaining candidates will split the Montgomery and PG County votes. Combined with Baltimore City, these three jurisdictions have supplied the votes for every Democratic governor nomination since Glendening and it is also where Franchot is weakest. |
| This race is between Franchot and Moore at this point (sorry Perez fans). If I had to pick a winner, I'd say it'll be Franchot just solely based on name recognition alone. |
Do you have polling that shows he's the least popular with BIPOC voters? |
Nope. Kamenetz would have absolutely won. Jealous never had a chance, and the death of Kamenetz changed nothing for him. Schultz is completely right wing, while Hogan made it clear he was a centrist at the time of election, even if he wasn't fully centrist. He also stood up to Trump. Schulz will not be elected, but if the situation repeats, she would lean in to a R president like a bug to light. |
We don't "love" him. We realize it could have been much worse and we didn't have a viable Dem candidate. Kamenetz would've won, but he died. As for me, a Dem, I wasn't happy with what he vetoed in legislation, but there were workarounds in our Dem legislative majority to overturn them. He also denounced Trump, and was vocal about it....I thought that was great. He didn't lie about the tests, it was just a complete blunder, but at least he tried. He did block his social media, but he got more grief from Trumpers than anyone. It was getting crazy. |
Yup. Also don’t think Baltimore and PG county primary turnout is going to be very strong in July. |
Do you have polling data that shows that he is popular with Black voters? He has zero relationships with Black lawmakers in the Assembly. None. It’s why he’s pulled Monique Anderson-Walker into the race as Lt. Gov, who is a first term district CM from PG County. The guy is 75 and has been around forever. There are no prominent state Black democrats that lined up with him. He’s spent more time campaigning on the Eastern Shore than Baltimore. Absolute joke to suggest otherwise. |
I wasn’t trying to be antagonistic. It was a sincere question. A significant portion of voters (or any race) don’t pay much attention and just vote by name recognition. And none of the candidates particularly stand out, for good or for ill. I feel Franchot will take this on name alone, barring any significant event before the 19th. |
| What is up with the creepy bicycle-built-for-two ad from unknown white guy from MoCo (never elected to any office)? His black female lieutenant Gov candidate just rides along....behind him. Poor optics. |
John Baron??? Yeah I got his ad last night on my phone and was sooooo unimpressed. |
TBF there seems to be a theme of picking female Lt. Gov candidates, it just so happens she is black. |
| What exactly does the Lt. Governor do? Maryland has one of the most powerful Governors in the United States, I would hazard to guess the Lt. Gov is more symbolic than anything given that. |
Waits in the wings in case the Governor dies. |
