Wednesday Meeting on MSI Soccer Stadium take over of Julius West Middle School fields

The issue with overflow parking is that the fields have been used as overflow parking on busy school nights. That use has now been removed by MSI for their own purposes. Overflow parking will be where now for school events? MSI has not come up with a solution to that issue yet.

That's not an MSI issue, that's a MCPS issue. And there are some pretty obvious solutions, starting with one that they're apparently already using: a shuttle bus from a satellite parking location. The neighbors should also approve of this solution, since it means less traffic to/from JW during the rare big school events like Back To School Night.

When they widen 270..will the fields be affected? I almost hate to ask..

Currently it's more like if they widen 270.

Plus they keep telling us that all of the widening would happen within the existing right-of-way.

It's MSI's problem now. They demanded this field. They created the problem.

Clearly the people with kids at Julius West, and kids who play MSI who have had their schedules messed up for 4 weeks now (like mine), are happy with the fields and want them open!

Most of the discussion here has been about parking and bathrooms.

Do you realize that MSI has been using the JW grass field for years? My DD team practiced here for the last two years. We also had games here too.

No one Parent Coalition ever mentioned about parking and/or bathrooms previously until the turf field was built.

Note: MSI indicated that the field will not be used any differently or any more than was previously used when it had grass (I.e. same amount of practices, games, players and parents).

People please calm down. MSI is working this out. This dispute has nothing to do with these nutcase parents complaining about parking and bathrooms. Sadly these parents have nothing to do but check and recheck the MD Public Schools forum on DCUM. The dispute is about $$ and who is going to pay for maintenance of the turf fields. MSI does not want to pay for maintenance as that was not in the original contract. They will hopefully work it out and our kids will be playing on the beautiful new turf field under the lights before we know it. Frankly, I don't care if MSI pays for it or not. I only care that my kid can play soccer on the new fields as was planned all along.

Here's a little advice for the crazy parents posting here about parking and bathrooms...the weather has been glorious. Maybe step away from the keyboard and take a walk. Get your mind off the negative and move on.

With the lighted fields, people can even take walks, jog and/or do other exercises when it gets dark especially during the winter months when it gets dark around 6:30om.

You must not be from around here. The City of Rockville is a very safe place and people often walk after dark in complete safety. I walk my dog and see others doing the same as well as jogging after dark and no one has any problems. Again, maybe you are new here or from some other part of the county and don't know anything about Rockville. The City of Rockville even has it's own police department that are fast to respond to all calls. Much faster than the county cops you would call. People don't want bright stadium lights shining into their house windows after their kid's bedtimes. The City of Rockville has complete authority over ordinances within the city. If they want, the City Council could make it impossible for MSI to ever use that field.

I lived in Rockville since 1979. Sign up for the weekly Rockville Crime Report.

It’s called directional lights. Go look at Wootton HS before you complain about lights shining on people’s houses. Gee Wiz!!

You live in Rockville or City of Rockville? Are you able to vote in the upcoming election? Because it's strange if you think that neighborhood has a lot of crime if you're familiar with the City of Rockville. The best part about the city is that they listen to constituents. Remember when they had that vote on the Twinbrook Quarter? Nearly everyone from the City of Rockville that talked wanted it. Nearly everyone outside the city (Bethesda, North Bethesda, Gaithersburg) did not want it. They voted for it anyway and people from North Bethesda were complaining that means that they can't build more housing outside the city. lol

Well you are pretty delusional if you have any say about anything with these fields. Yes, MSI will probably not play on these fields until next season because of you. But after the election, these fields will be used by MSI and other soccer, football, lacrosse organizations under the lights whether you like it or not. All you managed to do was to disrupt a soccer season for MSI families. Congrats.

LOL

You should read up on what happened with the Twinbrook Quarter. Nearly everyone in the City of Rockville wanted the Twinbrook Quarter. Take a look at this at 25:30. That woman is from the WJ Cluster. Watching her ranting again still makes me laugh. She never said she's actually a resident of the city. She thinks that she should be able to tell the city what to do. If you think that she and people at WJ have less say than the people at MSI then you're crazy. The City of Rockville council does what's in the best interest of the city AND it's residents, not some random people from North Bethesda or some soccer moms from out of the city.
http://rockvillemd.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=3967

Then jump to 48:55 - She "grew up in Rockville" but has "friends" in the City of Rockville. In other words, she doesn't vote in the city elections just like the MSI people. She and MSI have interests that may not coincide with the citizens that voted for the mayor and council.

TLDR you know nothing Jon Snow.

I wonder what would happen if city residents started telling the city council they don’t want an MOU for this? MSI would never be able to use those fields. Sounds like MSI is not politically savvy.

But it is. MSI can't use the field now because of the problems they created. It's their move to solve them if they want to use the field.

The dispute between MSI and the City of Rockville is about overflow parking for JW MS on back-to-school night?

The lighting report has already been completed and the City of Rockville, MSI and MCPS all know that the lights will shine on to 270, the ramps and on to Falls Road and neighbors.

Where can drivers purchase black out curtains for their cars as they drive by these stadium lights?

You are stupid to think that the MDOT & Rockville would approve a lighting system that would affect driving on I-270. Please show your source.

Do these crazy parents think that MSI games and practices have the same amount of car traffic compared to back to school nights? Don’t know if these parents are crazy, stupid, desperate or just bitter.

If MSI can’t use the field, then MCPS is in breach of contract. MCPS will have to pay back $2.4M and might have to pay other costs from their breach of contract. MCPS will then have to go after the city of Rockville. Guess who pays at the end? All of you tax paying citizens.

Every time a candidate for city council comes to my door over the next month, I'm going to tell them, I do not support any MOU with MCPS for the MSI stadium lighting until all requirements are met. Why some outside group thinks they can come in and tell us how to run our city is beyond me.

MSI will sue and demand their $2.4M back in court, court fees, other costs! Good luck with that!!

The city of Rockville has extensive regulations for building. More than the rest of the county. MSI screwed up. They will lose every lawsuit because they didn't follow the law. I'd like to see the City of Rockville look into if they can fine them a few million dollars too.
