+1M Atheists are indeed very angry and combative to try and "prove" the religious people wrong on here. Things that make you go hmmmm.
You can take as many personal shots as you like. I don't think any atheists here are angry, except maybe about one thing:
How you believers often won't answer simple questions.
I am not saying your beliefs are wrong. I am asking how you justify them since there seems to be no significant evidence for them. If you take that as "trying" to "prove you wrong", well, that's your issue. This is a discussion forum, after all, and if you're not prepared to discuss things, maybe you should not participate in discussion?
I would encourage you to grow up and if you are going to engage be prepared to explain your religious beliefs the same way you might with someone who disagreed with you on any other topic on DCUM. Gardening, colleges, investing, health, and yes, politics.
Many non-believers do believe that believers are "wrong"...hence the use of terms like "idiots", "sheep", etc. etc. to describe them, as well as terms like "sky fairies" to poke fun at someone's beliefs. Don't ask believers to "grow up", when non-believers are also exhibiting childish behavior that you apparently don't like.
The justification is Faith. Period. Either you accept that, or you don't.
I don't accept that. I did, for a long time. I had religious faith too. Then I thought about it, very seriously, and studied it, as I have studied many subjects. I realized that I really wanted to go to heaven and live forever. And eventually, I realized that heaven made no sense.
I’m sorry, but this gets such an eye roll from me. You studied many subjects and eventually discovered that thousands of years of philosophy have been wrong, and the only thing that makes sense is that you are the most important being in the universe.
Okay.
Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of us peons. Why would we be spending any time reading the story of God when we could be learning more about YOU, pp?
DP. Yes thousands of years of outdated beliefs have been proven wrong when better methods/knowledge were discovered. I'm sorry you can't see that. I'm glad that I did see that finally in HS learning how the world actually works (at a catholic school nonetheless!).

Sure. We can change our beliefs about the observable universe with new information. I also like science/astronomy. I have an MD and a PhD in neuroscience. But as many people have said, faith and God are outside of our observation unless we look within ourselves.
I don’t think it’s an accident that the pp did “some reading” and concluded that it was impossible that there ever has been, is now, or could ever be, anything more important than herself. I’m sure that she needed that belief for some reason. But I very much doubt that most people who did the “reading” that she did would come to the same conclusion she did! The fact that you can’t believe in God, but you have complete faith in that poster’s conclusions is ridiculous.
The only reason I can imagine you would believe her is that it confirms your own needed belief that there is nothing bigger or more important than yourself and no reason to do anything other than what you feel like doing.
How convenient to think that faith and God are outside of our observation unless we look within ourselves!
Whatever. You say that you want more proof, but if God came down here Himself and told you that there He existed and there is something in the Universe that mattered more than you do, you wouldn’t believe Him.
So what do you expect anyone else to say?
You can’t let go of your belief in your own divinity and you aren’t even willing to try. There is no reason to argue with you.
There is at least one religious person here who thinks that atheists think they ARE god. Don't know where they got that idea as I've never heard it said by an atheist, and would not expect to, as atheists don't believe in gods.
To repeat: Atheists don't think they are god. Atheists don't believe in gods.
Atheists don't have a religion. Maybe they once did, but they don't now.
Other than that, they are like everyone else - some are ugly, some are handsome, tall or short, mean or nice, fat or thin, Democrat or Republican (e.g., Trump).

Okay. How would you talk about college with someone who didn’t believe that a college education existed?
Someone who thinks that people pay a lot of money and go to college for four years in order to maintain some kind of social standing and to be accepted into their families who might otherwise shun them, or at least be very disappointed and bring it up frequently. That the families are upset not because they care about their family member and believe they would benefit from a college education, but because they have been brainwashed into thinking a college education is real.
However, this person tells you, there isn’t actually anything that is real or valuable happening at colleges or universities. Their main function is in brainwashing the people who attend into thinking they have some kind of value, and anyone with any kind of critical thinking skills could see that higher education is a sham.
How would you respond to these people? And what if every thread on the college board was overrun by them?
Show them a degree. Solid proof of a college education. Show them job postings requiring that education.
Also, every thread in this forum isn't over run by athiests. That's a big stretch.
There are athiests and people mocking religion on nearly every single thread.
It’s really more or less unusable for actually talking about religion.
You’re not counting this thread, are you?
No. But probably 75% of the threads on here have posts from atheists. The other 25% are mostly logistical.
It would be nice if you could talk to someone who is of a different faith or people who are questioning their faith. But instead the whole forum is rendered more or less useless by atheist trolls.
Then someone goes and starts a thread with athiest in the title, guaranteeing more posts from athiests.

Your modus operandi seems to be name calling. There is no proof of God. That's why faith is required.
But the good news is that you'll spend your life believing that you'll go to heaven when you die.
Instead, you'll go where your beloved dog goes and where you were before you were born. Nowhere.
What name are you being called? An atheist? That’s how you identify yourself…

Not trying to recruit. For one thing, there are no fees attached to atheism, as there are to belong to a church. There is no monetary or eternal benefit for an atheist to recruit.
But it's interesting that you see it that way. Perhaps it's because when a religious person talks about their religion, they are in fact trying to recruit.

You will never, ever, ever, get honest answers to these questions. Which I guess is smart on the part of the faithful. Evidence of my position that they are not “idiots”.
It’s also evidence of one of many many built-in “failsafes” in Christianity. There are so many that keep logic and questions away. Thought stopping cliches.

Correct. Atheists don't tell people how they'll suffer after death if they don't believe in God.
For me, I wish I had thought about god belief sooner. It was just such a natural part of life to believe in god. That's what should change, and is changing, finally.
