If someone was going to leave GA for greener pastures, which club would you recommend? NVA, Union, VDA etc.?
|
| VDA |
The elite. BRAVE. |
| Thank you for the perspective. Hopefully Revolution becomes GA and we will see you guys in a tournament or two to revalidate our relevance. If they do not we will see you at your ID sessions in the spring. |
That would be assuming Revolution doesn't have entire FCV teams moving over. If that happens, it's not a 2-5 year rebuilding. |
I would be surprised if you see entire teams moving over. There is no guarantee that things are structured the same way they have been just because CC is there. The longer it takes for news to drop, the more dismantling you'll see as kids are already testing the waters not knowing what is going on. |
| Sounds good. Thank you. Will be interesting how everything pans out. As I heard SYC and FCV will partner in Springfield, I heard Great Falls Reston is pulling out of the NVA partnership, I heard VDA is going thru things as well to include a shaking up at Union with SYC moving on. Seems no one is safe from the VA Youth Soccer drama. |
1000% agree. We have heard similar rumors but can't validate anything. |
| It’s hard to imagine entire FCV teams moving wholesale to VAR even if they get GA. The top players will have their choice among the area programs and especially those U15 and older will want to take a path with proven and immediate college recruiting which is going to be established clubs with ECNL. VAR would likely not be going to GA playoffs or in champions league events which is FCV’s big advantage in secondary league like GA. That’s why I agree it will take several years at least for VAR to build its program on the girls side. |
| I keep hearing that most clubs don't coach players up at the level most parents desire. Is the player and family responsible for getting their kid trained and the club provides a platform to be seen and an advocate for players exposure to college coaches. I keep hearing that for FCV BP was that advocate. Is it safe to say ALL clubs have a version of BP that does the same thing? I was also told that both GA and ECNL host college coaches at their events and if your player can ball then they will be seen no matter the league they play in. |
Yes for the most part player and family is responsible. All of these players going to play in college have done training outside the club for years. Both on their own and also paying private coaches for individual and small group training. The club, and really the league, provides the platform. It's quite a business. |
Yes, all clubs should have a version of BP. FCV doesn’t play the most competitive teams and yet they have almost their full team of seniors committed. Other clubs do nothing when it comes to networking, organizing college showcase or at least having college attending practices or scrimmages. Some clubs even get their players signed with recruiting agencies, cost is part of the season fees. |
This. Without stirring the ECNL vs GA pot, the overwhelming majority of parents with kids on FCV GA teams are not ignorant when it comes to leagues, clubs, coaches, etc. Everyone has their own individual reasons but generally speaking, most FCV GA players aren't there primary to "have fun playing soccer with their friends" (which is largely the case with Revolution's current player base). They (or their parents) are on an FCV GA team because they're serious about soccer and obviously, at the older ages, that typically means wanting to play in college. To get entire teams of FCV GA players to move over to Revolution, CC will have to sell the idea that it's "still going to be the same FCV standard, same coaches (sans BP), same training, etc." just with a new name. How successful he'll be at that remains to be seen. As an FCV parent, are you willing to trust that? Are you confident that six months in, your DD isn't going to end up being coached by a guy with nothing more than a 7v7 license? It will be interesting to see how many FCV parents/players are willing to take that chance. If I'm an NVA coach, though, I'm probably looking forward to seeing a lot more faces at ID sessions this spring... |
How this is playing out has probably had some effect on how families feel towards FCV/CC/BP. |

Revolution is getting GA. They will not be getting Champions League next season but will have to earn their spot BUT the FCV teams that finish up top will likely be invited as Wild Cards (just 07s and 08s) Most players will just move over but BP loyals will follow him to VDA.
FCV GA program folding due to TSJ management decisions and the lack of field availability. Keeping the United and Futsal programs. BP is going to VDA. Some players will follow. Announcements won't come til end of February until all the moving parts are in order. Everyone involved just wants smooth transition Possible problem for VAR future program is going to be the younger ages. If 10s and 11s move over without losing many players, success could continue. If lose key players, it it will take time to rebuild. On the brightside, VAR can take credit for the 08 D1 recruits and spotlight the already committed 07s. /story |
