I’m a socially conservative immigrant who votes democrat. The following are too much for me:

- talking about gender identity and sexuality in elementary school. Have no problem with talking about how some kids have two mommies or two daddies. But when students are taught about sex in 4th grade I’d rather it be introduced as a means of reproduction. I feel sex as pleasure should not be discussed until middle school.
- parents not knowing if their kids are identifying as another gender. This is a medical issue. Parents have the right to know whether their child has socially transitioned.
-pretending that biological sex is a social construct. Women are adult human females. Females are the sex with the large gametes - the ones, where if everything is functioning properly, have the capacity to get pregnant. Males do not. It’s as simple as that.

Everything else I’m ok with, including gay marriage.

Honest question - for number 1 why don’t you just sign the permission form for your child not to participate in sex Ed?

You have your head in the sand. Do you not let your kids interact with other kids? Should those parents be barred from talking with their kids about sex in terms you don’t approve of so your child is never exposed to information you don’t want them to have? Do your kids ever have access to the Internet or smart phones? I guarantee you they are seeing a ton of sex related information.

The material is beyond sex ed.

Then take your kid out of school that day.

Or. As the Republicans tell us. It’s a country where states have power. Move to a state you like. Loser.

Why, because people think schools should stick to teaching algebra, basic arithmetic, physics, chemistry, and writing rather than forcing grade and middle schoolers to be subjected to cartoons illustrating jim and Jack in the bedroom and dressed in bondage? Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure the former series of lessons is much more valuable to the student and the county's future economy.

Nah, let's get rid of Pride in schools instead. The historical tides are against them. They catastrophically misplayed their hand. What we're seeing here is the beginning of the correction that is long overdue.

The tides are definitely not turning the way you think they are in MoCo lmao.

+100
The emphasis on Pride in schools is ridiculous. By its very definition, it is an emphasis on sexual conduct.

Gay people could have marriages, kids, and normal lives. In the past couple years, this has changed into an overtly "sexual revolution" message that places an emphasis on personal sexual fulfillment rather than emphasizing the importance of family unity. I think this is harmful to society, and while we should certainly tolerate people who choose to live promiscuous, self-indulgent lifestyles (straight or gay), this shouldn't be celebrated and promoted in the form of state sponsored parades with public nudity or otherwise salacious dress, books in public schools for children, and the White House declaring this lifestyle the "bravest and most courageous." We don't celebrate families in this way, and raising a family is both difficult and essential for society. I think using taxpayer money to promote sexual promiscuity is a step too far and too "Brave New World" ("promiscuity is a citizen's duty"-- literal quote from the book). One way to destroy a culture is to weaken personal relationships, and I am highly suspicious of the intent behind the assault on families (again, gay or straight) and the extreme emphasis on individual sexual gratification as the ultimate good. Biden's recent comments about how all kids are everyone's kids is, again, straight out of Brave New World ("everyone belongs to everyone"). Just like when you prioritize everything, nothing is a priority-- when you make everyone belong to everyone, then no one belongs to anyone. As they say, when people show you who they are- believe them. We all saw them disrobe in front of the white house, in a crowd of likeminded revolutionaries, and shake their bare chests on a video.
In front of Biden, the secret service, etc. I believe them; they intend to destroy our culture and our values by debasing what we used to find important (the American dream) and replace it with a new priority of sexuality as the supreme value. In other words, to me, this isn't about being gay or being straight. It's about an insidious attempt to destroy our society from the inside out in order to gain control. So, what limits do I want on gay people? None. What limits do I want on l the government promoting gender confusion, while also baking in parental alienation as an actual policy? Limits on the use of elected positions to promote sexual promiscuity? I want total cessation of this.

Well said. I have been thinking about that book a lot lately.

I 100% support equal rights for all people. But like others above said, I think most people are tired of hearing people yap about it all the time. I think sadly for the LGBT community, the extremists in their community are hurting them.

Do you know why people are "yapping about it all the time?" Because trans people are dying! A trans acquaintance of mine just had his drink spiked with Fentanyl at a random bar and he is now in the hospital with kidney failure.

"That's an isolated incident. It's not happening on a large scale " Right?

The thing is protections for trans people are being eroded and if we "stop yapping about it" the worse it will get and the freer people will feel to discriminate. We can't be silent because our lives LITERALLY DEPEND ON IT.

Except there is absolutely no evidence that transitioning minors (and that includes social transition and puberty blockers) reduces the risk of suicide. Europe has moved away from gender affirmation of minors (see article in the Economist as an example). The US is an outlier on this issue (not sure about Canada).

Define "conservative."

I'm basically a Trump-hating small-government fiscally responsible libertarian. I don't think that governments should generally get involved in social issues, and I believe that education should be controlled at the local level, not at the state or federal levels. Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in private. The definition of "marriage" should rest with religious and social organizations and not government ones. Not sure what else OP wants to hear.

PP here

1) I want my kid to take sex Ed. Currently in Virginia sex Ed in elementary school focuses on the reproductive process. So I’m not going to sign the slip. I think sex Ed is important.
2) No I don’t give my elementary schoolers smart phones and don’t allow them to go on the internet unsupervised. They may one day access porn or whatever from a friend’s phone but we have already discussed what constitutes bad pictures and good pictures using a much recommended book.
3) no I don’t have my head in the sand. I don’t think it’s appropriate to discuss sexuality with anyone who isn’t going through puberty.
4) my kids will be exposed. But I plan to teach them our values. I also plan to teach them what biological sex is and that sex is a binary.

You may have issues with my way of thinking but if you poll immigrants, I bet you that the majority agree with me. You have no right to push your values on us and forcing your values will only lead to an exodus from public schools to private schools. This will increase support for vouchers and charter schools. I am Muslim and the waitlist for Islamic schools is really high now because of people like you forcing your beliefs on us. It’s counter intuitive for democrats to push this ideology while also being against charter schools and vouchers. The more you push, the greater the support for vouchers will be. We had no issue with how sex was taught let’s say 10 or 15 years ago. Yes some people opted out or sent their kids to private school but the majority believed in the public school system. Sex is a binary. This is something fundamental to Islam. Yes trans people exist (this is recognized in Islam as well) but that doesn’t mean that biological sexual isn’t a binary (gender is something else - based on biological sex but also social norms).

Social transition is quite literally NOT medical transition. If a kid identifies as the other gender and they are scared of their parent's finding out, why should they be forcefully outed to them? What are you going to a kid that identifies as trans when you don't want them to be?

Actually it is. Read the latest research coming from Sweden and Holland. They have been following the Dutch protocol before US doctors switched to gender affirmation. They have now abandoned it because it is experimental and the risks are too great.

Oh one more thing I forgot to add - drag queen story hour in schools and public libraries. Pretty disgusting. Let’s stop that.

I guess you probably think kids should never have been allowed to watch Mrs. Doubtfire. What do you think should've happened to the parents of the child actors who were in that movie?

Except that Mrs Doubtfire wasn’t sexual in nature. Drag queen story hour is.

Why should we stop drag queen story hour? If someone wants to take their kids to it, that's up to them. Why should you get to decide what others do? Just because you're "socially conservative" you think that your opinion of disgust about drag queens is something everyone should have forced onto them? No one is forcing you to take your kids to drag queen story hour and you have no right to force others to not do s

Why stop there? Give kids open access to porn as a parent and rated R movies to 8 year olds where they’re blowing off the heads of bad guys in action movies. Who needs to filter content for their kids at all?

Again, other people's parenting of their children is none of your business. If someone wants to take their kid to drag queen story hour, they can do so and it's literally none of your business and you have no say over what they should be allowed to do.

So should we stop rating movies? Remove age restrictions when it comes to gambling, strip clubs and access to pornography? Are you against all restrictions on minors?

I don't think it is so recent. I remember the first gay pride parade I ever saw in DC in the early 1990s featured a fair amount of harness-wearing leather boys wearing thongs and leather chaps. It has always been a thing in the pride celebration culture. It was kind of an in-your-face response to being legally discriminated against in most parts of the country. Now that gay marriage is widely accepted, and there is a lot of acceptance of gay families, maybe Pride needs to take a closer look at content. I have gone to Pride marches and parades to support my LGBTQ friends, but there's no way I would have taken my kids to one until they were in high school precisely because of the sexualized aspects.

I also don't get people thinking that Drag Queen Story Hour is some sexualized grooming activity. Remember Dame Edna? We have had a very family friendly block party for years in my DC neighborhood that almost always had somebody in drag (depending upon the particular year's theme---everyone from Queen Elizabeth to a hula girl) but it is in no way sexualized. I'm way more leery of a married male coach or scout leader singling out a boy for "special"outings and other surreptitious forms of grooming. THAT'S where the REAL pedophiles are---not some over the top clowning around queen reading Cinderella to a crowded reading room.
