Why, because people think schools should stick to teaching algebra, basic arithmetic, physics, chemistry, and writing rather than forcing grade and middle schoolers to be subjected to cartoons illustrating jim and Jack in the bedroom and dressed in bondage? Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure the former series of lessons is much more valuable to the student and the county's future economy. |
The tides are definitely not turning the way you think they are in MoCo lmao. |
Still waiting for the evidence that conservatives are rolling back LGBTQ rights. |
+100 The emphasis on Pride in schools is ridiculous. By its very definition, it is an emphasis on sexual conduct. |
Except there is absolutely no evidence that transitioning minors (and that includes social transition and puberty blockers) reduces the risk of suicide. Europe has moved away from gender affirmation of minors (see article in the Economist as an example). The US is an outlier on this issue (not sure about Canada). |
Define "conservative."
I'm basically a Trump-hating small-government fiscally responsible libertarian. I don't think that governments should generally get involved in social issues, and I believe that education should be controlled at the local level, not at the state or federal levels. Consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want in private. The definition of "marriage" should rest with religious and social organizations and not government ones. Not sure what else OP wants to hear. |
This too. Seems like a recent phenomenon. |
PP here 1) I want my kid to take sex Ed. Currently in Virginia sex Ed in elementary school focuses on the reproductive process. So I’m not going to sign the slip. I think sex Ed is important. 2) No I don’t give my elementary schoolers smart phones and don’t allow them to go on the internet unsupervised. They may one day access porn or whatever from a friend’s phone but we have already discussed what constitutes bad pictures and good pictures using a much recommended book. 3) no I don’t have my head in the sand. I don’t think it’s appropriate to discuss sexuality with anyone who isn’t going through puberty. 4) my kids will be exposed. But I plan to teach them our values. I also plan to teach them what biological sex is and that sex is a binary. You may have issues with my way of thinking but if you poll immigrants, I bet you that the majority agree with me. You have no right to push your values on us and forcing your values will only lead to an exodus from public schools to private schools. This will increase support for vouchers and charter schools. I am Muslim and the waitlist for Islamic schools is really high now because of people like you forcing your beliefs on us. It’s counter intuitive for democrats to push this ideology while also being against charter schools and vouchers. The more you push, the greater the support for vouchers will be. We had no issue with how sex was taught let’s say 10 or 15 years ago. Yes some people opted out or sent their kids to private school but the majority believed in the public school system. Sex is a binary. This is something fundamental to Islam. Yes trans people exist (this is recognized in Islam as well) but that doesn’t mean that biological sexual isn’t a binary (gender is something else - based on biological sex but also social norms). |
Actually it is. Read the latest research coming from Sweden and Holland. They have been following the Dutch protocol before US doctors switched to gender affirmation. They have now abandoned it because it is experimental and the risks are too great. |
Except that Mrs Doubtfire wasn’t sexual in nature. Drag queen story hour is. |
So should we stop rating movies? Remove age restrictions when it comes to gambling, strip clubs and access to pornography? Are you against all restrictions on minors? |
Social and medical transition are not the same thing. |
Telling kids about gay people is no different than telling people about their straight families. |
One is normal, the other is not. |
I don't think it is so recent. I remember the first gay pride parade I ever saw in DC in the early 1990s featured a fair amount of harness-wearing leather boys wearing thongs and leather chaps. It has always been a thing in the pride celebration culture. It was kind of an in-your-face response to being legally discriminated against in most parts of the country. Now that gay marriage is widely accepted, and there is a lot of acceptance of gay families, maybe Pride needs to take a closer look at content. I have gone to Pride marches and parades to support my LGBTQ friends, but there's no way I would have taken my kids to one until they were in high school precisely because of the sexualized aspects. I also don't get people thinking that Drag Queen Story Hour is some sexualized grooming activity. Remember Dame Edna? We have had a very family friendly block party for years in my DC neighborhood that almost always had somebody in drag (depending upon the particular year's theme---everyone from Queen Elizabeth to a hula girl) but it is in no way sexualized. I'm way more leery of a married male coach or scout leader singling out a boy for "special"outings and other surreptitious forms of grooming. THAT'S where the REAL pedophiles are---not some over the top clowning around queen reading Cinderella to a crowded reading room. |
