I've always just checked "white" for my kids recognizing that they are more white than hispanic. But am I wrong? My DH is not technically white but there's no box for him.

You’re fretting and overstating the importance of this. When it comes to diversity outreach, the main focus is now and long has been on African Americans. As it should be, since this country has screwed them over in unimaginable ways for hundreds of years. All of this other stuff is just noise. None of you is being denied anything.

Harvard case showed that Hispanics get massive boost also and unlike black people it is less deserved and way easier to game

What is the criteria to claim Hispanic/Latino?

Is this really what our college application system has become? I cannot imagine anyone that I know doing this. And doesn’t the high school guidance counselor have to review the application and verify information anyway?

How do they explain their last name (if Asian)?

Umm, you do know that there are Asian Latinos. They don't need to explain anything.

3/4 Asian cousin was given mother’s Latina last name instead of father’s Asian last name. I can only guess why they did this in today’s day and age.

This cousin should have no trouble checking the box and it would not be cheating at all. The name aspect alone wouldn't matter to admissions. Unfortunately, the last name could lead to prejudice beyond college given the current state of affairs.

Get rid of absurd affirmative action and this issue goes away. Enough with race quotas and handicaps.

That there are discussions about doing this with your children is especially problematic ethically.

Even in the Varsity Blues cases the students were mostly unaware of what was going on and were not directly complicit.

Do you all think the elite private universities with no state or location based mission should be actively recruiting and accepting far more international students for undergraduate programs? Places like Stanford and Harvard regularly have classes with under 15% international students when we have a world of amazing minds. No offense to this board, but how many middle and upper class DC area kids does a school really "need" or should they even want? American overrepresentation is something more people should be thinking about but that I haven't really seen on this board.
