From the thread about cheating via extended time, some mentioned that white/Asian students are being coached to check the box that they are black or Hispanic. Is this really what our college application system has become? I cannot imagine anyone that I know doing this. And doesn’t the high school guidance counselor have to review the application and verify information anyway?
How do they explain their last name (if Asian)?
Umm, you do know that there are Asian Latinos. They don't need to explain anything.
3/4 Asian cousin was given mother’s Latina last name instead of father’s Asian last name. I can only guess why they did this in today’s day and age.
This cousin should have no trouble checking the box and it would not be cheating at all. The name aspect alone wouldn't matter to admissions. Unfortunately, the last name could lead to prejudice beyond college given the current state of affairs.
