Nathan Phillips says Covington students need "Sensitivity Training"... LOL!

Meanwhile the protest at the Shrine on Saturday night DOES show a video of Mr Phillips before they went in and got arrested.... hmmmm, the left were protecting him last night after I posted an article that didn't specifically mention him being arrested.

Just stop. You know damn well it was a blackout game.

I live and grew up near Covington. The issue is much bigger than that, and includes an utter lack of experience with anyone or anything unlike themselves, like generations of their families before them. A problem endemic to a large swath of this country, unfortunately.

One could say the exact same thing about DC liberals.

Phillips did not want it to go away. He wanted it to escalate.

That is why he posted an edited video with no sound and lied about what the kids were saying and what happened.

He wanted it to escalate because he apparently wants a "meeting with the Catholic church" to give all their property away worldwide. These are his words and demands, btw.

Bingo -

I am the PPP. And I agree. Bu kids and chaperones could have made it all go away by apologizing for their role. Ditto Mr. Phillips. (I don't expect the BHI nutters to EVER apologize.) We would have all moved on days ago. Instead they are trying to gaslight the whole country with this poor me nonsense.

So because Phillipsis a bad actor, the kids and their adult chaperones can't rise above to apologize for their role in the confrontation? I don't see the logic here. And as a Catholic, I'm of the opinion that accepting responsibility for your part and turning the other cheek is the right thing to do. This playing the victim thing is almost more shameful than the original incident.

Well there you go.

It's not OK.

But we're dealing with a private institution that's not funded by tax money and obviously supported by wealthy "people of faith." So unless you go all 21 Jump Street on Covington, how will you fight against the school's claim that this was a non-racist tradition?

This is no different from the anger at Pence's wife b/c she accepted a position teaching art at a Christian school that's anti-LGBT. If people are willing to find other "like-minded" individuals in an effort to create a group, you can't stop them unless they're out murdering people.

You are all trying to fight against people who are comfortable in their niche. They have each other. They have money to support and insulate themselves. What you're trying to fight is a way of life that's been around since the beginning of "civilized" time. In this case, they have money and God on their side.

Do they still do that “tradition”?

Times change. People are becoming more respectful of others. And fewer people are religious. These dinosaurs’ dats are numbered.

Fewer people are religious? Is that a good thing? Oh, I forgot.....libs also hate religious people.

But how much religious observance is "too much" according to liberals? I don't eat pork or shellfish. Is that acceptable to you? I also fast on Yom Kippur. Is that OK? I don't eat grain products during Passover? Am I overdoing it?

Please tell me. I know the "tolerant" liberals have a very defined notion of how one should beleive and act, and it's hard to keep up with the parameters they set.

Take a deep breath, PP. I am a Catholic and what I would define as the religious left, so we get it from "our side" too. Atheist/anti-religion sentiment does not define the entire left. But religious people do have a responsibility to practice what is preached. I believe that Catholic social teaching is a true reflection of Jesus, and I choose to live it and vote by it - the consistent life ethic. (Although as an American who believes in Democracy writ large I think government needs to be 100% out of reproductive issues.) The problem is that so many right wing religious are authoritarian by instinct and behave and speak inconsistent with their (loudly) stated values. Thst hypocrisy, in my view, begs for an1d deserves a strong challenge. And if you are so weak that you can't reconcile and defend your views without behaving like a defensive child, well......

There are so few religious on the left as the left as a whole tends to be VERY anti religion, especially anti Christian and anti Jewish.

WRONG. Some of the most liberal people I know are also the most observant Catholics, Episcopalians and Jews that I know. Including myself.

I find that hard to believe.

Then you should meet more people to help broaden your experience.

Nothing changed-except that a spoiled and nasty kid learned he could act badly and be babied for it after the fact.

The entire original narrative was a fabricated lie.

Based on the facts that are co.ing out, along with Phillips behavior since, he created this moment to get to the Catholic church. Shame on him for ruining these kids lives.

What lie? The kids were acting like douches.

The kids did not act like douches. Given the circumstances, they showed incredible reserve, particularly the main kid.

If they had not been wearing MAGA hats, every liberal on DCUM and twitter would be applauding them for trying to drown out the racists shouting about sodomy and calling them f*ggots.

Agree. I'm actually impressed with the main kid. He showed a lot of maturity to just stand there. He also signaled his friend to "cut" the insult - which is quite mature considering black guys just called him a cracker.

I'll remember his name. I hope he gets a fine education and becomes a successful professional with a rewarding life.

He will. He has already been embraced by our local community, he will be accepted into a KY state U, and his parents and social network will help him land a great job. Seriously, don't wring your hands for this kid.

Oh look - an adult from that community. Why do you let kids act like that?

Are you living in DC? You know I’m DC kids are worse, right?

I'm leaving because in the first week one teacher had his arm dislocated by a student while another suffered a broken hand. They threatened to rape a female teacher after work. One of my students was arrested in my classroom for fighting another student for "looking at him." That same day, another student was beaten unconscious in the classroom next door. The students intentionally threw laptops from the laptop cart to the ground, shattering them, because they "didn't feel like reading." All of these students are still enrolled. At most they received a two or three day suspension and returned with new shoes, new hairdos, and a new lore among their peers.
They sit in the classes on their phones, they gamble, they throw chairs and flip over tables in what our administration writes off as "attention seeking behavior" and all throughout this someone comes in to informally observe us and tell us how shitty of a job we're doing. They don't suspend or expel, because the goal is to reduce suspension numbers this year. I call parents everyday and, while a FEW apologize and say that they'll try to speak with their kids, the majority say something along the lines of "that's your problem," "I've washed my hands of my child," or "don't call me again."

I substituted once and the several kids were smoking crack in the back as soon as the PowerPoint started. Others have ear buds in. Some sleep. It’s awful

But he smirked, PP. you won’t get a response here or it will be deleted

They're getting desperate. They also dug up some elementary school photos.

In the meantime, they continue to defend the Native American, and why? Because he's a minority. It doesn't tmatter that he's a criminal, a liar, and an instigator. The "other" side is a white kid from an affluent family who is pro-choice, so he'll be condemned regardless.

I'm glad the student kept his cool and didn't take a swing or initiate something violent. (He obviously has the strength advantage.) Instead, he remained cool and collected throughout the whole thing, even signaling his friend NOT to insult the N.A.

It wasn't them but that kind of unthinking bro culture is alive and well there 7-8 years. I live here, and Twain was right when he said the end of the world will reach us 10 later than the rest of the world. Cultural change is glacial here.

DP. You can't just go by meeting people, or your personal experience. The more religious people tend to be conservative, and the more secular tend to be liberal. There are always exceptions, but that's what voting patterns show. Take a poll at a Reform temple and an Orthodox shul, and you'll see.

They behaved less than ideally, but it was typical behavior of teenager boys. In fact, I think the response to their bigoted instigators was mild. The behavior of the N.A., otoh, was much, much worse. To try to draw a parallel by saying "well, everybody was bad" is just the liberal insistence of not placing the blame for encounters on a minority no matter how deserved it may be.

No.
The author of this piece is from NJ. He is projecting his experiences and really has no authority to do so. But, you folks will eat it up.

Did you even read the piece? He has a large excerpt from someone who was active in the Covington community. Wow, you really are proving the ignorance of your ilk.
