Even the leftists who recognize on same level that the fault lies with the adults are focusing on the white chaperones of these kids. The real fault lies with a) those black militants yelling cracker and worse, and 2) the Native American who escalated the situation.

I think leftists have become quite mentally ill. Their hatred leads them to always blame the wrong people

Liar.

Think back to when you were 16 - what would you have done if Nathan Philips came up to you banging the drum? What should he have done?

He shouldn’t have participated in the mob. He should have retreated when the nut jobs started up. He should have made way for Phillips as he moved through.

He chose to participate in the wild behavior. He chose to interact with the BHI. He chose to make a stand against Phillips. He chose to act like a douche.

Yes, he’s 16 and made several mistakes? Where were the chaperones?

Hell no. Phillips is a thief but he is an adult. He should have known better and left kids along.

Based on the facts that are co.ing out, along with Phillips behavior since, he created this moment to get to the Catholic church. Shame on him for ruining these kids lives.

What lie? The kids were acting like douches.

The kids did not act like douches. Given the circumstances, they showed incredible reserve, particularly the main kid.

If they had not been wearing MAGA hats, every liberal on DCUM and twitter would be applauding them for trying to drown out the racists shouting about sodomy and calling them f*ggots.

If you've ever wondered what the demographic is on DCUM, just take a look at the comments by black people on social media about this incident. Most I've seen have said, basically, "If anyone got up in my kid's face like that, they'd wish they hadn't."

So what does that tell you about the demographic on DCUM?

Largely white liberals who are consumed by white guilt. The black folks who see this are honest enough to say that if a man was beating a drum in their teen's face, while other men were yelling bigoted names at him, they would support him doing more to protect his personal space than just standing there. Not just support it, but expect it.

It's not OK.

But we're dealing with a private institution that's not funded by tax money and obviously supported by wealthy "people of faith." So unless you go all 21 Jump Street on Covington, how will you fight against the school's claim that this was a non-racist tradition?

This is no different from the anger at Pence's wife b/c she accepted a position teaching art at a Christian school that's anti-LGBT. If people are willing to find other "like-minded" individuals in an effort to create a group, you can't stop them unless they're out murdering people.

You are all trying to fight against people who are comfortable in their niche. They have each other. They have money to support and insulate themselves. What you're trying to fight is a way of life that's been around since the beginning of "civilized" time. In this case, they have money and God on their side.

Do they still do that “tradition”?

Times change. People are becoming more respectful of others. And fewer people are religious. These dinosaurs’ dats are numbered.

Fewer people are religious? Is that a good thing? Oh, I forgot.....libs also hate religious people.

But how much religious observance is "too much" according to liberals? I don't eat pork or shellfish. Is that acceptable to you? I also fast on Yom Kippur. Is that OK? I don't eat grain products during Passover? Am I overdoing it?

Please tell me. I know the "tolerant" liberals have a very defined notion of how one should beleive and act, and it's hard to keep up with the parameters they set.

Take a deep breath, PP. I am a Catholic and what I would define as the religious left, so we get it from "our side" too. Atheist/anti-religion sentiment does not define the entire left. But religious people do have a responsibility to practice what is preached. I believe that Catholic social teaching is a true reflection of Jesus, and I choose to live it and vote by it - the consistent life ethic. (Although as an American who believes in Democracy writ large I think government needs to be 100% out of reproductive issues.) The problem is that so many right wing religious are authoritarian by instinct and behave and speak inconsistent with their (loudly) stated values. Thst hypocrisy, in my view, begs for an1d deserves a strong challenge. And if you are so weak that you can't reconcile and defend your views without behaving like a defensive child, well......

There are so few religious on the left as the left as a whole tends to be VERY anti religion, especially anti Christian and anti Jewish.

WRONG. Some of the most liberal people I know are also the most observant Catholics, Episcopalians and Jews that I know. Including myself.

Agree. I'm actually impressed with the main kid. He showed a lot of maturity to just stand there. He also signaled his friend to "cut" the insult - which is quite mature considering black guys just called him a cracker.

I'll remember his name. I hope he gets a fine education and becomes a successful professional with a rewarding life.

He will. He has already been embraced by our local community, he will be accepted into a KY state U, and his parents and social network will help him land a great job. Seriously, don't wring your hands for this kid.

Oh look - an adult from that community. Why do you let kids act like that?

I don't. I didn't say that I was from the SCHOOL community but I live in this area and I know students and parents who attend the school. Do you comprehend the difference?

We probably agree on a lot of the issues so CALM DOWN ALREADY.

I didn’t say SCHOOL community. Why does your community let kids act like that? Where were the chaperones?

One could say the exact same thing about DC liberals.

Bingo -

The difference being that the DC liberals will fight for those unlike themselves so they can feel morally superior, but avoid actual interaction with them at all costs.

Maybe if you could ask the question in a way that doesn't imply a personal attack of my character I'd be inclined to explain it. I did so probably 50 pages back.

Not really, it's based on the "dogma lives loud in you" comments and Kafkaesque "have you now or ever been a member of the /commununist party/ Knights of Columbus?" Questions.

Phillips did not want it to go away. He wanted it to escalate.

That is why he posted an edited video with no sound and lied about what the kids were saying and what happened.

He wanted it to escalate because he apparently wants a "meeting with the Catholic church" to give all their property away worldwide. These are his words and demands, btw.

Bingo -

I am the PPP. And I agree. Bu kids and chaperones could have made it all go away by apologizing for their role. Ditto Mr. Phillips. (I don't expect the BHI nutters to EVER apologize.) We would have all moved on days ago. Instead they are trying to gaslight the whole country with this poor me nonsense.

First, I saw a very brief clip of this incident, and was not completely sure the young man's behavior was disrespectful - he did appear awkward and a bit uncomfortable.

Then, I saw a clip that was several minutes long (leading up to and following the incident), and am maddened by the behavior of the Native American elder and his fellow protesters.

This incident was shamefully instigated by the elder and his group. The kids handled themselves well, considering.

That many of the boys were wearing MAGA hats is independent of the fact that the brief clip was published with the apparent intent to elicit negative reactions toward the boys. Certainly, the media bears some responsibility here, along with the consumers, to dig deeper.

At some point, we've got to stop fighting each with each other and work again at finding (creating) common ground.

Agree. And,now, he and his supporters are "explaining" many statements. He implied he was a Vietnam vet--and, did not correct the record when others said he was. He said he was a "recon ranger" --which is a slang expression bandied about for being in a Marine recon patrol (it is really a Marine in a recon patrol who has also graduated from Army Ranger School). Now, he is saying he meant on the "reservation." His Marine experience was as a refrigerator repairman stateside--and, he even went AWOL from that.
He is willing to "forgive" the young man who merely stood there when he walked up to bang a drum in his face.
He originally said the kids were screaming "build the wall"--when, in reality, that was absolutely not true--verified on other and longer recordings. He also said the kids were screaming racial slurs at the African Americans--also, not true.

And, yet, people are still defending him.
