With teachers vaccinated, why are we still talking about hybrid, and not a full return to school?

It’s definitely more complicated than that.

What are you talking about? Almost all FCPS teachers will be fully vaccinated before they even go back to work.

That’s why teachers are getting vaccinated (the title of this thread).

None of the vaccines are 100% effective and the 94-95% efficacy has only been shown with small numbers of self-selected people and not the general population. Even Fauci and the CDC admit that the verdict is still out on the effectiveness of the current vaccines. (Side note: look up the difference between the term "efficacy" and the term "effectiveness" before responding.) In this case the teacher's family attest that she contracted the virus because of her job as a teacher at Ballou. Since you don't know her and her family does, I think I'll take their word for it over yours.

Omg. 95% effective is excellent for any vaccine. And they were all nearly 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths. Even the Johnson & Johnson vaccine which was less effective at preventing illness still kept study participants out of the hospital! Not addressing any points about the teachers death here but you have got to stop the breathless fear-mongering.

Oh dear. You didn't do your homework. There is a difference between effectiveness and efficacy. The efficacy with a small, self-selected population was 94-95%. The effectiveness with the general population isn't known. Furthermore the general population represents a much wider set of health issues and the virus mutations have increased. It is very doubtful that the vaccine will be 94-95% effective.

Please get schooled before you continue spouting lies and "facts." Your as bad as the guy we just voted out of office if you don't. Although you may be part of his fan club.

The final point is that children are known asymptomatic carriers and super spreaders of the virus. A few hours in school is not worth the risk to teachers' lives.

Well you’re all going back within the next few weeks so buck up, Buttercup. Can’t wait to see you NOT get Covid because you’ve been vaccinated!

I'm a parent you idiot. My kids are NOT going back. Frankly, I don't want my kids anywhere near yours; if you're such a nut job then no telling what your kids are like. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and all that. We all know who is going back. Its the kids whose parents cannot control them. The good kids are staying home out of the fray.

For high school it doesn't matter. Teachers of middle school and high school students will be at a high level of risk because their students have bodies that are like adult bodies, not kid bodies, and those students have not been vaccinated. Just look at the Ballou teacher who died this past weekend. It is obscene that that some of you expect teachers to expose themselves to such great risk when there is no reason for it.

I feel bad for your good kids. They'll have been out of the school building for 18 months.

They will be vaccinated.

Let that poor Ballou teacher rest in peace.

No, all staff will not be vaccinated as there are not enough vaccines to go around. Its not just teachers who need to be vaccinated for school.

The "apple doesn't fall from the tree" line...blah blah. Whatever, I can control my kids just fine. They're both going back. And I feel bad for PP's kids too.

70% of TJ kids chose to stay home in the fall. The fact that the smartest kids who have the most to lose by not coming back to their labs chose to stay online should tell you something.

That number is probably even higher now, since the in-person returns have dropped by 20% since fall at two other HS I'm aware of.

It tells us something. That they like DL? That they all have the longest commutes and didn't see the value of 2-day school? Something else? I don't know. Did we ask them?

Apparently you aren't reading any science reports. The vaccines have not been proven effective with the general population; the vaccines have only had an efficacy with a small self-selected population that does NOT resemble the general population. The vaccines do NOT have any proven effectiveness against the new mutations. Middle school students and high school students can carry the virus and infect teachers. Even IF teachers are vaccinated they can still carry the virus home and infect others in their households. Stop making stupid choices that have negative impacts on others. If you want the "poor Ballou teacher" to "rest in peace" then start making smarter choices that wouldn't have placed her in harms way. THAT'S the way to respect her and her family.

Sure. They're the smartest kids in the county. Let's ask them to write a paper on it. They'll be able to do it handily. Now, whether you're capable of understanding it will be a different story ...

Actually Asians chose DL at the highest rates overall, and Asians are over represented at TJ. So it definitely tracks.

It tells us they're good at SCIENCE.

Or they hate their school and never want to return?

Maybe.
