With teachers vaccinated, why are we still talking about hybrid, and not a full return to school?

What are you talking about? Almost all FCPS teachers will be fully vaccinated before they even go back to work.

For high school it doesn't matter. Teachers of middle school and high school students will be at a high level of risk because their students have bodies that are like adult bodies, not kid bodies, and those students have not been vaccinated. Just look at the Ballou teacher who died this past weekend. It is obscene that that some of you expect teachers to expose themselves to such great risk when there is no reason for it.

Apparently you aren't reading any science reports. The vaccines have not been proven effective with the general population; the vaccines have only had an efficacy with a small self-selected population that does NOT resemble the general population. The vaccines do NOT have any proven effectiveness against the new mutations. Middle school students and high school students can carry the virus and infect teachers. Even IF teachers are vaccinated they can still carry the virus home and infect others in their households. Stop making stupid choices that have negative impacts on others. If you want the "poor Ballou teacher" to "rest in peace" then start making smarter choices that wouldn't have placed her in harms way. THAT'S the way to respect her and her family.

FCPS Employee: Just signed up for my 2nd shot and I know a lot of school staff who are still waiting to get an email so they can get their first shot. Inova/FCHD website appointments are still reserved for EMTs, Law Enforcement, Daycare and school employees, and healthcare workers only.

School board still meeting virtually, but declaring it's safe for employees and kids to go to school/work.

FCPS employee here too. ES. I also just signed up for my 2nd shot and so did my DH (also ES). We can't think of anyone who hasn't been able to not only schedule their first shot, but who hasn't had it. Some have already had their 2nd. We were just saying our teams (upper and lower ES) will have have our 2nd done a few weeks before students return on the 16th.

The school board is meeting virtually for work sessions, but not their regular meetings. Maybe they will switch to having both meetings in person once students return starting next week.
