With teachers vaccinated, why are we still talking about hybrid, and not a full return to school?

70% of TJ kids chose to stay home in the fall. The fact that the smartest kids who have the most to lose by not coming back to their labs chose to stay online should tell you something.

That number is probably even higher now, since the in-person returns have dropped by 20% since fall at two other HS I'm aware of.

It tells us something. That they like DL? That they all have the longest commutes and didn't see the value of 2-day school? Something else? I don't know. Did we ask them?

Yes. I would caution against making generalizations about how and why people are switching. I know people who chose virtual who have switched to in-person and have done so for reasons ranging from DL isn’t working for the kid to the parents’ work schedule changed and they are now back to work in person to mental health concerns. I also know people who have switched from in-person to DL. And again for a variety of reasons from fear of metrics to thinking 2 days isn’t worth the trouble but they’d do 5 days if they could to simply wanting to stay with their teacher but the teacher is staying virtual. There are a million reasons why people could switch in either direction. It’s constantly evolving.

My God, isn’t it obvious? They like DL because it’s easier to cheat!

That will of course be true for some students, but I have plenty of students who aren't cheating and who are staying home (I know they know their stuff because they participate in class, ask good questions, seek clarification, come to office hours and demonstrate their knowledge). I also have plenty of students who are cheating and who are planning on coming back to school. I suspect that the parents are making them come back because the cheating isn't working out too well and they expect the in-person special sauce to fix everything.

What are you talking about? Almost all FCPS teachers will be fully vaccinated before they even go back to work.

For high school it doesn't matter. Teachers of middle school and high school students will be at a high level of risk because their students have bodies that are like adult bodies, not kid bodies, and those students have not been vaccinated. Just look at the Ballou teacher who died this past weekend. It is obscene that that some of you expect teachers to expose themselves to such great risk when there is no reason for it.

No. Teachers of middle school and high school students will be vaccinated.

They will be vaccinated.

Let that poor Ballou teacher rest in peace.

Apparently you aren't reading any science reports. The vaccines have not been proven effective with the general population; the vaccines have only had an efficacy with a small self-selected population that does NOT resemble the general population. The vaccines do NOT have any proven effectiveness against the new mutations. Middle school students and high school students can carry the virus and infect teachers. Even IF teachers are vaccinated they can still carry the virus home and infect others in their households. Stop making stupid choices that have negative impacts on others. If you want the "poor Ballou teacher" to "rest in peace" then start making smarter choices that wouldn't have placed her in harms way. THAT'S the way to respect her and her family.

Please do actual research on the vaccines. They are still very effective against the mutations, and very likely decrease transmission. This is recent data from Israel after much of their population was vaccinated.

I suggest you take your own advice. They are not "very effective" against anything yet because nothing has been proven. And none of the vaccines have any efficacy against the South African mutation.

What in the world are you talking about? Do you have even a foundational understanding of science and medicine? Have you been reading the actual stories regarding the trials and the real world evidence?

This is a really succinct post to help those that don't understand vaccine efficacy.

Well, obviously if they are in person they won’t be able to cheat right in front of you, so yeah?

Hybrid is simply hygiene theater because many kids go to daycare the other days. School should open 5 days a week!

No, all staff will not be vaccinated as there are not enough vaccines to go around. Its not just teachers who need to be vaccinated for school.

FCPS is vaccinating every single employee, even the ones who work from
home or at gatehouse.

Don’t bother arguing with this person, pretty sure they’re an anti-vaxxer and if you believe that the vaccines work they call you a Trump supporter for some reason. Very weird troll.

Here you are. I'll give you a little hint for the future. Don't dare someone to do something when you know that you are wrong and the other person is right. You'll get show up every single time. Idiot troll.
