"Mike Pence is what happens when Anderson Cooper isn't gay" What does that even mean? And what is funny about saying "Mike Pence is the kind of guy who brushes his teeth and then drinks orange juice and thinks, Mmm"

It almost seems like she wanted to say something about toothpaste and orange juice....couldn't come up with anything except "Oh, hey, here's a guy who thinks that tastes good." It's just...not funny.

Oh, and the joke about southwest? Another joke that doesn't make sense (the Don is so broke that southwest used him as one of their engines?????) what does that mean? it's another statement where it sounds like she really really really wanted to make a southwest joke, but couldn't come up with anything so equates being poor with....what....being a failed engine?

Can someone explain these jokes?

The "Pence is gay" rumor/conspiracy theory has been around DC for a long time since he was a member of the House. She was referring to that and DC-based journalists would definitely be familiar with the rumor. This is totally OK since the GOP fully embraced conspiracy theories like Pizzagate during the election. I actually laughed really hard at this joke.

The Southwest joke plays off the fact that Trump is a "windbag" who blows a lot of metaphorical "hot air." This one fell flat - she could have done a better Southwest joke.

I'm the pp you responded to and thank you for explaining. I didn't know the Pence is gay rumor and now that you've explained, that one is funny. I agree that the Southwest one still wasn't funny (but thanks for explaining).

I think the Pence thing is so just a comparison of their hairstyles/looks.

The Southwest is about something not functioning and endangering everyone. I agree it was “too soon.”

"He (Pence) thinks abortion is murder. Which first of all don't know it till you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it. You gotta get that baby out of there."

WTF???

What? Really, she said that? I watched first few minutes, and once she started, how broke is he... it was so boring and stupid, like preschool I stopped. How is joking about abortion acceptable even among liberals? Abortion might be accepted by people, but there is not a single woman in the world that would ever joke about it(clearly apart from this idiot), whether she had it or not. Making that decision is without a doubt the hardest decision any pro or against woman can make. She doesn't have kids, yet that is not an excuse. No mother would ever joke about abortion, pro or against.

I don't know about that-I've heard jokes about abortion from two women who are mothers. One laughed and called her past abortions "Roto Rooter jobs." Please lets not get into sweeping generalizations about what mothers or non-mothers would say or do. I'm not a mother (and never will be one-too old at this point) and I wouldn't joke about abortion.

This Wolf woman is indeed a real animal. I think she'd be happier in a den.

I'm pro-choice and I completely agree.

Thanks for replying. I think there is roasting, but this is not roasting, this is crossing the line, and not funny in the slightest. And not towards Pence, what do I care about that dou** but to any mother who had kids, or any who even had an abortion. I grew up in a very pro/free choice country and when my friend got pregnant at 19, she was so in shock and didn't know what to do. I had no kid then, clearly, and I still regret telling her that she should think about abortion. And she did, and she decided to keep the baby, it was agonizing time for my friend. She was just starting college, she married the guy,(by not means all that great, but that is the custom...) she not only finished college, she went on to get a phd and is a professor at college. I still regret being so uncaring about her struggle at the time. It is good to have the choice, but "get that baby out of there?" Anyway, I am appalled, doesn't she have a writing team to advise against alienating mothers around the country, liberals one like you and me, too.

I'm the pro-choice PP, and once again, I agree with you - but I'm not a liberal. I'm a moderate conservative/independent.

Since when? Also, let's not pretend that anything is normal anymore, or that Donald Trump is just an ordinary Republican president. He's not. He's something entirely different, and will be treated accordingly. She didn't hold back when she was given the opportunity to speak. Good for her. Also, having watched it, I'm not sure where the outrage about SHS being attacked for her appearance is coming from? She called her a traitor to women and a liar. She attacked her character, which anyone associated with this administration, especially its propaganda arm, deserves. Same with Kellyanne and Ivanka.

Ah, the irony and disgusting, clueless hypocrisy of Liberal thought. In your delusional, "women power" blathering world, women are afforded not even the luxury of political choice.. Oh don't worry, you apply the same condescending, idiotic line of thinking to Minority voters. It would be funny if it was a few Liberals, but nah, we see it all the time.

So true. When women and minorities don't vote for the Democratic candidate, they're savagely pilloried as "traitors." I will never, *ever* march in lockstep with liberals - especially because they expect me to. This woman can think for herself.

Lol. I know, I know. You had that guy in the t-shirt at that one rally and Dr. Ben Carson. Very inclusive. You are going to sweep the minority votes up during the mid-terms! And women, too. Lol.

Because it's all about what race and gender voters are, right? Moron.

I didn’t realize Republicans had forfeited their right to call out a vile performance as just that. I am concerned, though, that some on the left are becoming unmoored from everything except hatred of Trump. As for gummy, oh ha, ha, wow, a joke about Trump not being as rich as he claims. That’s a new one. Here’s hoping we don’t have to see this demented seeming Annie again.

This. Those on the left are becoming increasingly unstable in their white-hot obsession with all things Trump. All one has to do is read this forum regularly to see the nuttiness on display.

Let's press rewind during the Obama years. It took obsession to a new level.

That's my reaction. I thought Wolf's bit was funny in parts, some jokes fell flat, whatever, but the reaction of people who are always complaining about "snowflakes" needing "safe spaces" is just too rich. The comedian ALWAYS makes fun of people at this thing--politicians and journalists. Maybe her jokes were more pointed than others', but the faux outrage is just ridiculous, coming from people whose commitment to "civility" apparently started at about the same time Wolf started speaking and not a second sooner.

Hate to break it to you but half the country voted for him. You can't have what is supposed to be a non-partisan event so viciously attack essentially half the country. Her act would be fine in a different venue, iyt was totally inappropriate for the occasion. Good entertainers should know how to tailor their act for the crowd they are performing for.

I don't think it was too offensive. And I am disappointed in the statement by the head of the WHCA.

Did you even listen to it? It's unfathomable that someone could actually listen to this and not think it was too offensive.
