Now is a good time to admit you didn’t actually watch it. |
| She was funny. She roasted the room. She calle SHS a liar. SHS is a liar. Hohum. No issue for me. |
|
I don't get the Michelle Wolff uproar. I watch the correspondents' dinner every year, and every year there's a comedian says something that makes me gasp, often about someone in the room. Is it because she's female?
|
It's because conservatives can give it out but can't take it. |
You are right. If you don’t like her, don’t watch her shows. The problem is... the president of the WHCA thought it was appropriate to have her address this group of people, and ultimately, the nation since it was broadcast live. Did you know that CSPAN had to cut its radio feed for the first time ever during Wolf’s speech? That tells you that she crossed the line. They should have known this was not the right person for the event. And, I disagree with you that comedians should be allowed to do whatever they feel like doing. Or, at least, we as the public should hold them accountable when they cross that line - much like what happened with Kathy Griffin. It is not acceptable to be cruel and hateful because of “comedy.” |
| People didn't like a woman being mean. Much ado about nothing. |
|
“I don’t know who those people think they are that she can’t say that to them, cause they offend people all the time. And I think that for many people … it’s cathartic to watch that woman speak truth to power like that.”
- Dave Chappelle |

I wish she'd cut the abortion joke. I'm not sure you can ever really joke about that, and it's given people a reason to be legitimately outraged amongst all the ridiculous outrage over the other stuff.
I thought most of her jokes were pretty funny. And she made some jokes about liberals/democrats too, so it wasn't totally one-sided. I have read the Handmaid's Tale and got the Aunt Lydia reference as it was intended. I thought the "smoky eye" joke was very funny. |
LOL yes and everyone loves a man being “mean”. Get a grip. |
|
| What did she get paid for that gig? |
| Yay Wolf! |
That was the issue. I read an article in the WP either today or yesterday saying the gig pays $10k and most known comedians can make more than that and that they can usually re-use jokes, but can't for the WH CD. So, it is hard to get good people. |
That was totally evident this year. That $10,000 could go for a scholarship. Better use of funds. |
| I only read the transcript, but thought it was spot on. I don't understand the uproar, and she went pretty easy on SHS, considering everyone in the Trump administration is a pretty easy target. |
