And then getting off the bus and having to walk 20 mins home to their apartment in the freezing cold? The kids in question were in a locked car.

See my last paragraph above. You too also fail parenting class.

Thanks for the science lesson, Bill Nye.

The science lesson was for those morons who believe that there is any possible way to give a pass to any parent would would be ignorant enough to believe that 2.5-3 hours inside a car at 28F would be safe for a child.

It isn't. This is like those people who believe that because they are so ignorant that climate change isn't real.

I wonder what line of work these two mental giants are in.

Agree. Anyone Showing such poor judgment you want to avoid.

Senior software engineer/consultant with phd.
Wife possibly senior person at FDA Acting director something. Several Jennies so not sure.

Just looked her up in our global email system and she's a Senior Clinical Analyst.

Thanks for cimplying with the FDA' privacy policy on email systems. I'll your boss would be happy to know that.

I work for a sister agency not FDA.

People are downgrading the offense (5.5?) due to the price of their house and the fact that they are a married couple with advance degrees and better jobs. Wow! Just because they reflect many of your demographics doesn't make their crime any less of an offense. Given the fact that one of them could have stayed home with the kids or both could have cancelled, it is really terrible.

+100. I'm extra offended by the news outlets not showing their mugshots or disclosing their names. If they were low SES or a minority they would not have hesitated to put them on display both on TV and in print. I think it's actually a worse offense to do this and have the means to have someone watch your child. They deserved to be shamed like any other idiot parent that does this crap!

Tell it. Where is the shot of them leaving the courthouse? I'm surprised some enterprising mommy blogger hasn't already gone down to the court or police station to get pictures of them leaving.

I'm the PP who said this ranks less than a 5.5 on the scale -- more like a 4.

I guess I'm just having a hard time caring. I'd have a similar hard time whether it was a single mom or black kids vs 2 parents and rich white kids. They did something that would harm their own family, how up and arms can I be about that? I feel like I limit my outrage to those out there who are going out harming or potentially harming others -- shooting up movie theaters and grocery stores full of innocent people who did nothing to them. If this is how you want to raise your kids, good for you. And reality is -- nothing happened to the kids and nothing would have happened. If it takes 2.5-3 hrs for hypothermia to set in in the upper 20s/lower 30s -- well, I'm pretty sure a wine tasting doesn't take longer than that. They would have returned in 2 hrs, cranked up the heat and gone home. And if something did happen -- they're the ones who'd have to live with it; much different from the random school/mall/movie theater shootings where someone's acts affect other families.

And for the PP who says that she's be so shocked and scared if she stumbled upon a parked car with 2 kids strapped in -- why exactly!? They're not YOUR kids. I'd hope I'd at least motivate myself to call 911 and mosey along.

it actually wasn't too bad and quite sunny. my 3-yo and i were playing at a play ground for over an hour around 2:30. older kids were playing basketball on a nearby court.

Did you see the film 'Sideways'? Perfectly sensible people may temporarily lose all sense in search of an opportunity to swill some really good Pinot noir.

It was 28 degrees, apparently.

I don't think parenting classes cover topics like "don't leave your kid in a car for an hour".

Still, I hope the kids aren't taken from their parents, but that the parents are watched carefully.

15:59 here -- promise I'm not a troll. Just someone who is a bit jaded and trying to survive my own life without feeling like I should be my brother's keeper.

Just so you realize that if your kids were ever in an emergency situation, what would you HOPE a random mom passing by would do?

I really hated that movie.

They must have been stoned out of their gourds to think this was a good idea.
